TBH, the chance of heaving a sudden dead Intel Xeon CPU is much much lower than a failed tray.

Of course, if cost is low, and you can re-sell the CPU, still worth to try.
 
i did, few months ago, take out the radiator above the processeur
and i didnt clean nor put new thermal paste
like i said, it was months ago
the mac worked flawlessly for few months
could the processor been affected ?

also before the chimes wouldnt ring, i had 3 days of having to push the start button
once ou twice before it really start up
 
sorry for the delay again

well i bought a proc Xeon 5670 (45$)
changed it (mono proc machine)
and .... same symptoms

power button is on (light on)
no chime
no image
all fanes are on

tried different HD, different position for the graphic card, different ram .....

guess i'll have to try the proc tray in another machine

oh lord i'm depressed again (Rod Stewart)
