2.) Go to ~/Library/Preferences and open the com.apple.Safari.plist file

I don't seem to have this file. Can anyone suggest where else it might be located, or how to generate one?

you could also try using the defaults command in terminal to do the same thing:

defaults write com.apple.Safari NSUserKeyEquivalents -dict-add "Back" "⌫"
this worked for me. i had to restart safari to get it to take.

So happy to have it back!

Question, though: In order to get the backspace character (⌫) I had to cut and paste from a previous post in this tread. How do you get it directly, does anyone know?
