upgrade

Is this worth purchasing and then buy the necessary parts to upgrade to dual CPU? How much would that cost approximately? I would have to purchase a tray with extra heat sink correct? The back panel is compatible with the 2 CPU tray right?

Not worth it. Those treys will set you back 500 and usually around 599 with heat syncs. That means your at $1100 if you paid $500 for your current machine. You can find a used 8 core for cheaper on ebay. Plus if you re-sell it your not selling it as an original 8 core. Might seem stupid, but this could hurt the re-sale value by deterring people away from it.

for example this one is a little beat up, but decent price. Ive seen good bargains for them on ebay in the passed if you bid on them. Just keep an eye out when searching.

Ya, been searching. Cheapest I've seen is $900 for a 2 x 2.26 4.1 machine at DV warehouse. Might have get that one if I don't see any good deals on craiglist. Some of the listed price on craiglist are more than OCW.

I wish I could find an 8 core for like 500-600 .. would definitely jump on that and upgrade to 3.46 12 core:confused:

They are out there. I bought a 2009 mac pro dual processors with a Wacom 21UX for $1100 shipped. It was an auction that i won't last year. Turned around and sold the wacom for $1000!! This was the tablet I literally paid $100 for my mac pro.

Deals can be had if you keep an eye out on no reserve auctions. I'm pretty sure the deal i got won't be replicable. I literally snipped it at the last minute. The auction was only at $500, i put a bid in the last 15 seconds for $1500 (since i knew how much that tablet was worth) and won't it at $1100. I know the other bidder was mad, he put in $1000 with 10 seconds left and got in one more bid and raised it to $1100 little did he know i had it won unto $1500 lol.

I already purchased a mac pro 2.26 8 core a few months prior to use as my server, but when i seen that deal i decided to buy it and give it to my wife. Now she runs a 2.93 12 core cMP. She loves it.

The best way to find deals is to setup searches to e-mail you when new items come up. That way you can catch a buy it now, or bid on a item.

Just keep an eye out. The deals are out there. Their are a lot of people who are easily willing to accept 500-700 for that computer because in their eyes its 6 years old and they are probably super excited to get that. Most who do sell it for those kinds of prices tend to be people who don't know about the 12 core upgrade or are afraid to attempt it. They also don't bother checking other ebay auctions and just run a no reserve auction.

How so????????

This forum allows members to use it as a marketing tool and it deminishes the reputation of the forum. Its silly because this forum is more interested in people trying to sell their warez with a dog in the fight than providing good information and reasonable discourse.

^^^^The contributions MVC has made to this forum have been immeasurable to many of us here. Can't make the same statement about you.

You have been a member for better than five years, yet have only 270 posts. Not much ro say, except to criticize.

"This Post Sucks" and "This Picture is Stupid" are a couple of your classics.

I disagree, but if you feel so strongly about the way this forum works, why don't leave?

MVC provides an invaluable participation here. This forum is greatly enhanced by his participation. I'm greatful for the information he has provided here as are MANY others. What helpful contribution have you made?

Have to wholeheartedly support MVC too and the other many other experts who contribute, some of whom may run businesses. MR would be a much lesser place without them.

shoot this guy a email, ask him if he can send u a invoice to your paypal with a updated price without the ebay's ridiculous seller's fee, im sure he will comply.

mac pro 4.1 8 core for 600 i only seen it once or twice, the seller wants to make it a quick sale, other than that its high season when a new mac pro comes out and ppl selling their 4.1 to upgrade.

This is cheaper. It won't last long I'm sure.

If these were PCs, for this age and condition, they would barely or never sale. The fact that they carry an Apple logo (sometimes scratched or dented), and because they can (still) run OS X, allows these machines to fetch what I would call a premium price considering the otherwise crappy hardware that they are made of. Sure, I'd love to pick one up in top notch shape without a scratch or dent and without having to spend 3 to 4 days meticulously cleaning up the gunk, dust, cat or dog hair, and other human garbage out of the fans, motherboard, psu, etc.

Premium price, yes. Crappy hardware, no.

Foxconn motherboards... have you cleaned any cMPs after they've been sitting still and running for a few years? Avery hole where a screw goes in to attach the board to the case or tray corrodes. Then they're sold on eBay with cheap SSD drives, cheap hard drives and bottom of the barrel GPUs for premium prices. That's what I was talking about.
