2017 MB. got it when first came out

was 87% for months but now back up to 91%

I hope you had applecare otherwise maybe not worth replacing. just buy a 2017 soon at a discount.
I don’t have Applecare. It would have cost me $249.-. Battery replacement service costs $199.-. Even at discount 2017 Macbook 512gb would cost at least $1400.-. Just for reselling reason It’s worth the cost to replace the battery once. And i expect to use my baby for another 2-3 Years before i have to dump it and buy a completely new one.

According to coconutBattery, it's retaining anywhere from 87%-92% of it's design capacity (10 seconds ago it read 89.4% and right now it's reading 91.7%; go figure).
Ever since I've started back at school the cycle counts have been increasing and I've been keeping an eye on battery health.

Excuse me but if this is for real then you are allowed to get a free battery if I'm not mistaken replaced for you by Apple. I am pretty sure that if the capacity is below 80% at less than 800 or some charge cycles then the battery is defective and you're warranty allows a free replacement.

I have a 2017-09-11 15 inch macbook pro with 307 cycle count and it has 97% battery capacity and fluctuates between 92-98%
Click the Apple icon at the top left of your screen then About this Mac then System Report and you can see it under Power.
I think he meant the Coconut Battery listing of the cycles.
You'll find it under 'history tab'.

Degraded a lot the first 1,5 years but flattened out after that.
Used most on battery the first 2 ,5 years. Last year mostly on mains.
'check battery' notification came on for some time ago but plan to use it a bit more as it is. Hopefully another year.
No Apple Care. A new one will cost me €210. Might do that when neccessary or for resale value.

Apple is saying the laptop is out of warranty and I am responsible for any repairs. 80% original capacity up to 1000 cycle counts is indeed the guideline, but also only applies WRT Apple covering the replacement cost under the original warranty or Applecare. Out of warranty, it's just a nice guideline.

"Replace Soon" it says, and I will. Macbook is running great with Mojave (currently 10.14.1 beta) and well worth putting a new battery in it.

@adrianlondon Sorry if this is a silly question but can you still replace batteries in 2013-2015-2016+ macbook pros?
MacBook 12 2015 with 179 cycles shows "service battery" message and fluctuates between 70~78% design capacity. Apple has really dropped the ball on these batteries and should issue a service program for them, since it's clear there is a widespread fault. How does one make this happen?
In the meantime, no more new MacBooks for me. Charging AU$300 to upgrade from 128GB to 256GB SSD, when I can buy a 500GB Samsung 970 SSD for AU$139? Apple is clearly no longer innovating these days--just extorting.

Same for me. 75% after 225 cycles on a 2015. I've tried the SMC reset with no luck. Let it discharge to 0% then back to 100%, no significant change. Apple says bring it to the workshop and we'll see if you're eligible for a free replacement, like is the battery defective or just normal wear.
