So what was the lawsuit about then? Battery fatigue, was it not? Anyway, this isn’t rare — people downloading the latest iOS update only to find their phones draining faster the next morning. Oh, and it’s always conveniently in time for the release of the newest iPhone.
Plenty of threads relating to the lawsuit cover it all fairly well, but it wasn't about updates decreasing battery life.

As far as it not being rare that people notice more of a battery drain right after updating, that certainly happens, and in many of those cases it stabilizes after a few days. In some cases there is still more of an ongoing effect. At the same time there are plenty who don't really experience much in terms of noticeable battery effects one way or another, and there are even some that actually see some improvements at times. It can be different for different people, but usually there isn't necessarily some sort of a general noticeable effect that most feel to some point where they are really impacted by it.

Brand new Iphone 12 pro here. I’ve had androids since the iPhone 5. And after the battery was taking a crap on my galaxy s9. I figured I would give apple another shot. Friends at work have said they love the battery life of them. Phone came with 14.1 and ran flawlessly. And I couldn’t kill the battery in a day and a half of heavy use, trying too. I updated to 14.2 yesterday. And I barely could get the day out of it. With light to moderate use. Might have to turn it in and get a one plus 8 pro. Or figure out how to go back to 14.1

1st gen SE. Held onto iOS 12.4 for as long as I could but recently updated to 14 b/c of the 'security features'.
Noticed accelerated battery drain at first but let it sort itself out for a few weeks. Battery drains slower than immediately after the update, but I spend way more time in low-power mode than when I was on iOS12.

Updated again to 14.2 when it was released. Now the phone drains to auto power off within minutes of being unplugged. Battery health says max cap is 85%, peak performance is supported, optimized charging is on. Guessing this is a software thing and not really battery related? Any options other than wiping and doing a clean restore?

I had the same problem last night and I am also a bit at a loss. But I am otherwise satisfied with 14.2.

@bydandie what is this settling phase and how long does it take sorry im new to this and just upgraded to an iphone 6s on 14.2
The iPad and and iPhone undergo a period of indexing for a couple of days after each update. This can result in a hit, and the only 6s I have is a test rig with no SIM and lasts 3-4 days.
