Has anyone else noticed that their battery is draining MUCH faster with 1.0.2?

Normally after about 6-7 hours of being unplugged I have about 40-50% left. However, since the update I'm at 20% after 6-7 hours.

Today for example, I unplugged it at 8:30, listened to some music for my 15 minute walk to work then locked it. Talked to my Mom for about 10 minutes while I was on break, locked it. At about 2:30 I got a text and when I checked it I got the 20% warning!

In fact, yesterday was the first day since I've owned it that my battery died before I got home to charge it. And that was with light/moderate use (a few more calls than today) for only 11 hours before it died.

What the heck is going on?

I'm doing a restore tonight when I get home, and if it happens again tomorrow I'm going to my Apple Store.

Edit: Since I know someone will ask, the only hacks I have are custom ringtones and a different AT&T logo via iFuntastic. Had these with 1.0 and 1.01 with no problems.

I *just* started to think the same thing. Mine is at about 1/3 left charge after the update and not even 2hrs use. Previously I was getting up to 4 days standby and 5hrs use.

Jecapaga, have you been getting e-mail through your iPhone since the update? I just noticed that I hadn't been receiving e-mail, and when I went to Mail it would just keep saying "Connecting" at the bottom.

I'm wondering if this might have been the problem, since the iPhone just kept constantly trying to use Edge to connect with no luck. Basically like surfing the web for 5 or 6 hours straight.

I went ahead and deleted the account (Yahoo) and added again. It connects now with no problem, so hopefully after I give it a full charge tonight I won't have any problems tomorrow (crossing my fingers!). :(

Couple of other questions. Did you have to do a full restore with 1.0.2 or just an upgrade? (I had to do full restore) Does your usage time since last full charge work? (Mine still says that usage times will be shown after iPhone is fully charged)

Interesting, that would definetelly drain the battery really fast trying to connect to email for hours...

I'm just hoping that was the issue, as I really don't feel like dealing w/ Apple Store, replacements, etc. (crosses fingers, toes, knocks on wood)

it does seem that way,but then I do not use the phone part of the iPhone(yet)
my iPhone has been on all day with connection to wifi most of the evening and at 2/3rd's off battery

I've been gettin email fine. Actually, yahoo push has been dead on since the recent update. I did not have to restore either. My usage settings did zero out when i fully charged after the update.

I had this same thing happen to me after 1.0.1. While locked, the phone was warmer to the touch, the battery drained super fast, and it ended up it was a Yahoo mail account hanging. I deleted and re-set it up, and haven't had the problem since. 1.0.2 went super smooth for me, and I didn't notice any difference on anything. No wifi, signal bounce, new icons, wallpaper, nothing is new after 1.0.2... and I still have SMS issues.... oh well.

mine seems to be doing alright, I've been surfing for about an hour and I'm still at 80%. God i love this thing!

I'm thinking the exact same thing here. After staying up all night, at 10am I set the fully-charged iphone to set an alarm to wake me in 30 minutes. 6 hours, 5 missed calls and 3 voicemails later, I wake up to see the phone laying there, unplugged, dead. I never picked up or even heard the phone.

Mine is definitely draining ALOT faster. I usually get to work and have the WIFI on. Before I would seldom see the battery meter drop all day. After the first couple hours it was at the half way point.

I did a hard reset and charged it over night.

Today it is ok, but I was at a satellite office with no wifi.

Will compare it again tomorrow.

My e-mail still wasn't coming through correctly (was just hanging at "Connecting") so I went ahead and restored it. Just to be safe, I chose not to restore from backup, so I am starting from scratch.

I'll report the results mid-day tomorrow... :(

This is exactly what is happening with my iphone.

I knew I wasn't going crazy.

I'm at under 50% with 2 hours of mixed internet/phone usage.

this used to barely hit 80% before the update.

I've restored multiple times and am schedule for a genius bar meet up.

2nd Iphone.

I let you guys know how it goes.

i guess I'll be on a third:eek:

I was actually thinking of this same thing yesterday, but I told myself that I was crazy....My iPhone is absolutely dying VERY quickly since the update, hmmm....this is odd. I have 5 email accounts and I've been receiving email on all of them, so I have no idea....

i didnt download the update and my battery is draining so fast right now... i charged it this morning took it off the charger and around 11 and didnt use it at all really except check my email once...i checked the usage and it says that i have used it 4 hours 44 min since last charge which is not true and it says that it has been on standby for 5 hours 16 min...my battery right now is down to the red

what the hell????

WTF they didnt have any loaner phones at the apple store now I have to pay apple care for a loaner phone.

If any other people are experiencing this can you set your email to manual checking? So far it seems to be effective but the days bit over

I haven't noticed my iPhone running any hotter than usual, but it does seem that the battery meter reflects a more rapid drain on the battery since the 1.0.2 update.

It's difficult to know for sure if it's really the battery draining or if it's the battery meter that is either more or less accurate.

I noticed the baterry draining but once you get around 10-20% left it still lasts a while before it actually dies.
