For those having trouble, I would recommend doing a full restore and start from scratch (do not restore from backup). I did this on Thursday night, and my phone has been acting much more stable with battery life and e-mail.

Let me know if this helps anyone else.

maybe it's me but even though I was told this was normal by apple, i'm not so sure. I do use my phone heavily. You tell me.

Full charge.
surfed (edge) for about 2 hours, no change in meter.
20 text, the meter has dropped to nearly half.
email checked manually only 2 times.

My battery has always seemed to do well until I start to text. Granted I text heavily, we use it as a chat since it's unlimited. However, battery seems to drain quickly, almost with each text.

Am I insane or is that normal?

Thanks.

Yeah but when you start from scratch dont you have to select a plan and wouldnt that add another account on your bill? Cuz yesterday all i did pretty much was listen to my ipod and text a lil bit and after 3 hours battery was at 20%

My battery seems a bit shorter and the when on the dock recharging it goes all crazy and shows like 50% left when it says 20% on the phone itself.

yeah my battery is draining like crazy, like last night it was at about 15 percent and i put it on the dock for no more than 5 minutes and it was above 50%...wtf? this is really annoying why cant apple have an update that actually does good and offers new sh*t

I had this same thing happen to me after 1.0.1. While locked, the phone was warmer to the touch, the battery drained super fast, and it ended up it was a Yahoo mail account hanging. I deleted and re-set it up, and haven't had the problem since. 1.0.2 went super smooth for me, and I didn't notice any difference on anything. No wifi, signal bounce, new icons, wallpaper, nothing is new after 1.0.2... and I still have SMS issues.... oh well.

What SMS issues?

I've posted about my situation on here before, but I have been carefully examining and documenting the situation and here is what's happening to me. I would be interested to see if anyone else is having this exact same problem since the update.

Prior to the update 1.0.2, I had a perfectly functioning iPhone. The battery charged perfectly and behaved properly.

Now, after applying the 1.0.2 update, this is what I am seeing.

If I take my iPhone, with the screen off, and plug it into the dock to charge it, the screen will immediately light up and show the big charging battery graphic. Normally, at the end of the night, I've usually got about 30% left, which is what the graphic shows, BUT about 2 seconds later, the amount that is filled in with green on the graphic will magically JUMP and add an additional 20% or so, making it look like my battery is 50% charged instead of 30%.

If I leave it like this, then I honestly believe that the iPhone charges until it shows full on the indicator, but THAT is not really full, it's about 20% off. So I wake up to a phone that APPEARS to be fully charged, but is actually about 20% short. This could explain why the battery appears to drain quicker.

If I put the phone in the dock, let the battery meter magically jump up 20%, then, leaving the phone in the dock, turn it off, and then back on, then the battery meter shows the correct charge (30%) and never jumps back up to where it incorrectly was before I turned it off. If it charges from this point, it still says it's fully charged in the morning, but you can tell that it has received more charge because it takes a lot more use before the battery meter starts dropping.

So it's been my experience that the 1.0.2 update causes the battery meter to just add about 20% whenever you plug it into the dock. Charging from that point gives you a battery that APPEARS to be fully charged, but is actually lacking about 20%.

Turning the iPhone off, and then back on, while still in the dock, puts the battery meter back where it is supposed to be and allows your phone to charge from that point.

I'm curious if anyone else is noticing the exact same thing.

It kinda' ***** having to turn the phone off and back on every single night, but I guess it's good to reboot electronics on a regular basis anyway.

Except for this little charging snafu brought about by the 1.0.2 update, I haven't had any more trouble out of my iPhone. I love it! And I hope the next update takes care of this battery meter issue from this update.

Well,

I take back what I said.

It really does look like the phone is draining faster.

This is with one hour of use. The "use" was with no phone calls. Two missed calls with voicemails saved and listened to.

Also some web surfing. That's it! I do have Yahoo IMAP on so maybe that's what's causing the drain. But look at my meter. Its at less than half at only one hour of use.

Here's a thought. I try to make it a habit to terminate any apps that I'm not planning to use again soon by holding down the home button until they're out of memory.

I'm pretty sure that if you have a bunch of apps open it could have an effect on battery drain....maybe not, but that might explain why some days are worse than others?

Just sayin...
;)

i'm at 4 hours and 2 minutes of usage and 11 hours 54 minutes of standby and my battery is at 70% or so. it has gotten worse since the last update, though.

I noticed the Bluetooth icon in the upper right.... do use a wireless headset? Perhaps that's draining the battery faster too.

Just a thought, if not then just ignore this post :p

Yep..but the settings for my phone haven't changed. I keep the bluetooth on all the time. Plus, as I stated in the above post. I just missed two calls and checked voicemail.

Maybe someone could post similar usage and take a picture of their usage and battery level.

Quit apps you dont use by holding the home button for about 8 seconds, would have been easyer if they made it 3 seconds or something though.

Contrary to what others have said, Its def the 1.02 update...i got my new iphone from Apple (an exchange for dead pixels) the night before last night...had about a 2 hour talk each night plus my fair share of internet use, and ipod playing and after practically 2 days the battery is at 40%...apple better fix that battery thing in their 1.03 update

agreed. usage: 2hrs..standby: 1 day, 12 hrs, battery: less than 50%

I'm not on 1.0.2 (I'm on 1.0.0), but my battery doesn't seem to be doing too good. I've not made any calls today (as I can't!), I've had bluetooth off, and I've used the phone for 1 1/2hrs today - mainly with wifi on going on safari and mailing (auto-join known networks, but the pop-up thing for new networks turned off), but also a bit of ipod videos etc. and my battery is at about 60% if not less. My screen brightness is about 80%, and I have auto-brightness on, as well as check email every hour.

I'm guessing it's the Wifi that's killing it? But still, all I have to do is another hour and a half on wifi (that's even without me making ANY calls), and my phone's dead.

Is this normal?!
