My phone is something that I want to have in my pocket. Just like my keys. Of course I don't mind plugging it in over night, but I would prefer if it always lasted a day, no matter what I do with it.

Since we are talking about it, I would also prefer my laptop to last for a day without charging, since then I don't have to carry around the charger. The MBA is getting there quickly, so I don't see why with phones it has to be the other way round, with modern phones lasting shorter and shorter.

You can call it obsession, I think that battery life is an important feature for any mobile device. And it is something that will play a role when I choose my next smartphone, after the somewhat underwhelming performance of my Nexus 4.

Maybe this is just a Kansas thing but here it's frowned upon to fill up an outlet with a phone charger in a restaurant or other place of business that you don't own.

The same usually applies while at work as people will just assume you're goofing off instead of being productive. Just having your personal phone visible is a good way for substitutes and teachers to get a bad reputation for themselves in the school system here.

So, for example, if I use my current smartphone for a couple of hours before work (and it has awful battery life) it could be down to >30% and I'd have no way of comfortably charging it throughout the day as I don't put a foot in my car for several hours at a time. Then I get to worry about the possibility of it randomly losing enough battery because it had a bad day and not getting any important e-mails, calls, text messages.

You could always put your phone in airplane mode whilst at work to save battery, just toggling it on when you need to check something?
