The conclusion for each, independently, has been to return the SE’s and Stick with their older phones as the trade in values vs retail of this phone was not deemed “worth it”

The trade-in values are only going to decrease, and future phones will only be more $$$...

From both 6S and 7 to the SE if they don’t see the value then I don’t think any phone will convince them to upgrade unless their current devices are falling apart.

Mine wasn't exactly falling apart but the (degraded) battery certainly left a lot to be desired. Couple that with desire for dual SIM ever since the XR/XS were released and super affordable pricing at Walmart and the SE 2 was an easy upgrade to make.

To be honest though, apart from battery woes, my iPhone 7 still performs just fine.

Mind, I expect a lot of people might just prefer a change in aesthetics to make it feel like an upgrade. I reckon that's the reason the new colors are usually the ones that go quickly on backorder when new iPhones are released.

Exactly! There are more than enough reason to upgrade from a 6S or 7 to the SE.

I specifically wanted dual SIM for travel (back when that was still possible) plus my old phone's battery is shot so *I* have a reason.

Others may not have and I have no doubt that for some, the old design (which I prefer) is considered a negative. That said, the SE 2's $400 price point has always been geared towards older models, designs and/or chipsets. For new styles, $650 has always been Apple's minimum.

They are being a little over the top. My 8+ is just as good on iOS 13 as it was on iOS 12 and 11. There may have been some truth to this 5 years ago. People are still paranoid about how Apple slowed phones down, and they think the updates make the phone run poorly with bad battery life in order to make you upgrade.
Samsung does lol

After 3 days with my SE I'd like to say my battery life has been absolutely great. A little better than my older iPhone 7 when it was new. I'm no power user but I have been using the SE more right now do to the newness and getting it set up. I always set up from scratch. I've been averaging about an hour of SOT per 10% of battery. Overnite does not drop from 100%. Currently SOT at 4h 24m and battery level at 55%. Not watching much video tho which is definitely a factor. Running the latest beta as well which seems rock solid and smooth. No complaints about battery life from me.
What is the 3-D touch that is said not to work? Mine works fine. I will need to get used to it again.

I just curious how much youtube eating battery on ios devices - still using cpu for vp9 codec ?

YouTube on iOS doesn’t use the VP9 codec, if I recall correctly. It’s part of why you can’t use 4K on iOS devices in the YouTube app.

You are right. I mean that "emulate VP9" codec by CPU, because of high CPU usage... Same on MacOS...

iPhone 6S through XS had a special layer in the screen to detect how much force you're putting on the screen, and that was how you'd access the shortcuts. The XR, 11 line, and now the SE removed the pressure sensitive layer but still have the shortcuts accessible via long a press, which is almost functionally identical :)
If you don't notice a difference, good!

Ok, that explains the long press then. It’s actually kind of annoying whenever I want to move an icon, trips me up most every time. Not used to it.

When the shortcut menu comes up you can choose the - Edit Home Screen - option to move the icons either way.

Having suffered with an iPhone 7 with a battery at close to end of life, I was really worried about upgrading to the SE instead of the 11 or 11 Pro. Thx to T-Mobile making my upgrade free after iPhone 7 trade in, I’ve been using the phone for about a week now and I think I am comfortable with the battery life. Happy to say that I haven’t been surprised in a good or bad way. The iPhone 11 battery still blows it out of the water but just didn’t like the size and how soft the screen was. This will hold me over just fine until the 5.4” 12 comes out.

-I don’t play games and only occasionally use photo/video editing apps
-most of this day was spent on WiFi given the current shelter in place in my state
-Push enabled, google apps, slack all running all day
-mostly used indoors so brightness at 50% or less

Note: I used an iPhone 11 for 3 months from release date last year and my most treasured phone is the OG iPhone SE, which I still have and love.

5.5 hours on screen time in 24 hours may be normal but I'm not sure it could be considered "light use". My phone normal use is never more than 2 hours; with iPad Mini normally 4-6 hours daily screen on.

Everyone has different expectations of what is normally sufficient.

My SE has great standby time. As far as on screen time 5 1/2 hours is about right. The A13 definitely optimizes battery life pretty well. That’s why the iPhone SE gets better battery life than the iPhone 8 does.

if you let this phone just sit there the battery will stay up for a long time. Great standby time and decent (average) on screen time.

Haha. I consider myself a normal/moderate user, and I typically only have between 2-3 hours of screen on time on my iPhone in 24 hours. I guess that's why I can easily get 2 days between charges with my iPhone 11 though...

Ive had very good battery life on my new Iphone SE. Last charged to 100% on Monday at 23.38 hrs and its now Wednesday at 20.13 hrs and i have just hit the 20% battery mark. I have been using instagram, briefly checking macrumours and taking a few pictures to test the camera (which is excellent i must say).

I consider myself a very heavy user with my XS Max and it shows almost seven and a half hours. Five and a half definitely isn't light use.

Coming from 6 and battery life on new se is a big upgrade for me

I think people here are confusing something: isn’t the factor to determine whether it’s light or moderate use the way you use the device, not how much you use the device, when factoring screen-on time? I mean, with iOS’ stellar standby time, I don’t think we should focus on whether you used it for two hours or six hours on a 24-hour period, but rather on what you did with the device.

Therefore, two hours can be both light and heavy use (if those two hours comprised gaming, it’s heavy, if those two hours were just of light web browsing, they’re light).

5.5 hours with the two most used apps being Facebook and Instagram (both heavy on battery) isn’t too bad, in my opinion. You can’t expect more on the SE.
