So you are saying I should toggle off the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth and additionally after that put the device on Airplane Mode ? That's what you are saying ? Right ?

Sorry to but in, but I don't think that you need to switch off the toggles and then put it in Airplane mode. Putting it in Airplane Mode should automatically turn off Bluetooth and WIFI connection. As the toggles in Control Center are not enough and people have to go to Settings to turn them off anyway, it's easier to just put the iPad in Airplane mode.

Even I thought so...But that is not what he is saying...He is saying...additionally if you put it in Airplane Mode, It will prolong your battery back up longer. That is what he is saying.

If putting it in airplane mode solves the battery drain then most likely you have a bunch of push/fetch notifications happening. Be it email, news or other apps. Those will drain the battery as it is constantly gettin info sent to it or looking for it.

So if that works you may want to assess what you need to have pushed or fetched on the iPad.

No, that is not what I am saying. At no point did I say additionally. The toggles in control centre do not turn the radios off, I’m saying use airplane mode instead as a quick way to turn them off.

Would like to see a confirmation on this from more people here. If this really helps.

I kept the pencil detached from the side of the iPad the last 2 nights and it only went down 1% over night (instead of completely draining my iPad). I thought the whole point of it magnetically attaching to the side was so we could keep it on and charged at all times, but if it drains the iPad what's the point? It's really no better than the gen 1 pencil if this is the case. Maybe I have a defected Pencil 2?

For me, the magnetic connection is for convenience as well as somewhere to store during use when the Pencil is not actively required. Otherwise I don't 'store' the pencil on the iPad when the iPad is not in use e.g. overnight.
I would also think if the iPad is in Airplane mode overnight then the Pencil should not drain it if physically connected since there would be no active connection so the Pencil should drop to sleep mode.

Well yes, putting into airplane mode will help as it turns off wifi, bluetooth, etc. Now it is minimal for me, but I am not having any issues with my battery, mine sat idle for 24 hours yesterday and only lost a few percent with everything on.

Y’all having problems with battery drain in standby, do you have a magnetic cover on? If not, y’all should be fixin’ to get one.

For me, the problem went away with a cover on.

Yes, I have had the smart folio (I bought it with my iPad). I took the pencil off the side of the iPad and it seems to be draining the battery less now.

My previous iPad 10.5 = Start of day: Battery at 100%, All day on standby, get home from work at 6pm: Battery at around 98%

Current iPad 11" = Start of day: Battery at 100%, All day on standby, get home from work at 6pm: Battery at around 80 - 85%.

When I got the new 11" iPad, I literally backed up my 10.5", restored my 11" from the iCloud backup and haven't changed any settings or apps since. Battery is definitely draining more so on this iPad for some reason, doesn't make any sense to me.

Check battery applet under settings to see what is using the battery. My 11 does not do this.

Not normal. As others have said, check the applet.

So after reviewing the battery applet, it’s pretty evident that I had 0 usage for a 3 hour period this afternoon and saw about a 10% drop during that period. I’ve added a screen shot. I was not connected to WiFi during this time (as always with my 10.5 iPad) and did not use it during this period. I pulled it out today around 5pm and used it for 40 minutes with normal drain watching TV.

It was steady at nearly 100% until around 2pm today.

It’s been a few weeks... any other ideas/issues for how to deal with the poor battery life? I am experiencing the same issues and have both the case and pencil on my 12.9” model.

For me this is the biggest issue with the iPad and used to be its greatest strength when compared to say the Surface.

Apple pencil doesnt drain the battery. I once left it attached overnight and it took 5% because the pencil battery was low.
If you want to attach the pencil without charging it, attach the pencil slightly to the right/left not in the center because that way the ipad won’t be charging the pencil.

On topic, my ipad stayed 100% for 6 hours and drained 7% in 3 hour moderate use. I can use it for a day (drawing, sketching, music, and browsing with some youtube) like 12-16 hours.

Has anyone had issues with the new apple pencil draining the battery of the ipad pros when it's attached in standby? I went to bed last night with 30% left on my ipad and woke up with it completely dead (I always close every app also when I am done using it). The kicker is the pencil is drained down to 74% too, even though I hadn't used it at all and it was attached to the iPad the whole time. What is going on here? Are we supposed to take the pencil off when it's at 100%? I was under the impression you were able to just keep it attached at all times.

I have been keeping the pencil off of the ipad unless it needs to be charged and the ipad is still losing more battery in standby than any other apple device I've owned.

Yes I had this same issue on my iPad too. If you turn off Bluetooth in settings the standby time is greatly increased when the Pencil is attached. I lose between 1-2% charge overnight doing this. It seems like a software issue because the problem is not affecting everybody.

I get through a full day and night without charging, just drop it on the charger overnight. I use mine daily for work all day and then some personal use at night.

With beta 3 of iPadOS Has consumed 0 % in almost 34 hours. So they must have fixed something. Even with wifi on. This is how it should have been. My picture is in swedish but Torsdag means thursday.

Which iPad is this...?

My battery life still sucks...

There is rarely a day that goes by that I don’t use my iPads, but I don’t notice any significant drain if I leave them off the charger overnight (the 11” is on iOS 12 and the 12.9” is on iPadOS).

The only significant hit to the battery I notice is Pencil use.
