Hello, I have an Iphone 7 and my battery does not last very long after the update.

Battery health is 98% and below is a list of the things I have done:
• Reset the phone as new and installed all the apps again.
• Turned off all the notifications except phone calls and messages.
• Turned off background refreshing.
• Turned off automatic updates.
• Turned off most locations, only maps and find my phone are on to (while using).
• Turned off vibration
• Cloud backup is set only for contacts, notes, reminders and calendar, NOT for photos, videos and apps.
• Display is set to low brightness
• Turned off analytics
• Email is set to "Manual" Fetch and Push are off
• I only use the original apple charger and cable.
• the phone has had plenty time to index everything and it should be settled now.
• I don't use Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter and Whatsap

Don't know what else to do to get better battery life. Sometimes I use low power mode which helps a bit.
The phone goes from 100% to 40% in stand by.
If I make a 10 min call, the battery drains about 25% of it's charge.

It's even worse now with the 13.1.3 update which I hoped it would fix the battery problem.

This is what I think, this new system is geared to the new phones with better batteries, processor and RAM.
I doubt that the battery will get better life on the iPhones 6S, 7 and 8 like it used to under IOS 12.

I'm thinking about buying one of those cases that has a built in battery pack to help and keeping me from charge my phone all the time.

I'm not buying a new iPhone I just can't afford, the iPhone 7 is still a great and capable phone.

If Anybody has any more suggestion I'll be happy to try.

I’m sorry you are stuck on iOS 13 with your 7. I tried the GM for a few days with my 7 but quickly downgraded back to 12 after mine was getting really hot with light usage. I’ve been watching the forums ever since and it looks like even now all the way up to the current release the battery drain/heating problem still isn’t solved. Is yours getting really hot too? How much screen on time are you getting per day? Is the battery draining a lot over standby too?

Mine was getting warm on the first two days but not anymore. Maybe because it is was indexing.
My screen time is about 1:30 a day. just to check email and some youtube before I go to bed.
the battery drains about 20% - 30% in standby.
I have a question for you, you mantioned you rolled back to 12. I still have the installer for the 12 in my computer at home. I heard apple stopped allowing people to sign in for the 12. Can I still roll back my phone to 12 like you?
Also, are you familiar with those mophie battery pack case that gives extra charging time? are they any good?

Apples stopped signing iOS 12 so you can’t roll back.

That’s nuts you only get an hour and a half screen time.

Maybe the battery meter is out of whack? Have you tried running the battery all the way down to 0 then charging it to 100% without touching it and seeing what kind of battery you get after that?

I have been using apples smart battery cases for years now and I love it. I get about 3.5 hours of screen time from the case before it shuts off and starts pulling off the internal battery. I get about the same SOT from the internal battery after that depending on what I’m doing. This is on iOS 12 and below I get that battery life. So a total of about 8 hours screen on time total per day depleting both batteries. Usually the internal battery lasts longer than the case battery. It’s crazy to think you in theory can get that much screen time from the 11 pro now without a battery case!!

Yeah your only option now is to keep your fingers crossed and hope they have an update that actually fixes the battery drain. That’s what I’m waiting for then maybe I’ll upgrade again but it’s not looking good right now!!! Hopefully by 13.2 they have the battery bugs sorted out but I’m not going to hold my breath!

I have done that too. I run the phone until it shuts down. Waited about 20min for the battery to rest and then charged back to 100% without using it. I did improved a little. What really consumes the battery the most are phone calls, you can actually see the percentage going down like a clock, no kidding.
I'm going to look for the battery pack you mentioned because as I said before, I think IOS13 consumes more power from the phone. That's why the just released iphones with better batteries.
For now, I sticking with lower power mode all the time.

When you reset the phone as new, did you use a backup? Have you tried using the phone without iCloud at all at least for some period of time to see if that makes any difference (there have been some posts mentioning that in relation to battery usage)?

Under battery settings, what does it show your biggest battery drain to be?

I suspect it's simply iOS 13 being too demanding for an older iPhone (though it's not really that old). I am also experiencing shorter battery life with my 8+, and I don't think all that stuff you did will really help save that much battery life. I don't find it worthwhile to invest in an apple battery case either.

Also, have you had your battery serviced recently? I find it hard to believe that battery health is still at 98% after 3 years, and perhaps that's the culprit - the battery is simply worn out after all this time and the battery meter (which I personally don't really place much faith in) isn't picking this up.

When I reset the phone as new, I did not restore from the itunes backup, I download one app at the time. The only thing I restored was my contacts from the icloud.
My battery was replaced last december at the apple store. it is at 98% health now because I'm not a heavy user, and when I was under IOS 12 I would charge my phone every other day.
I'm going to try to turn off icloud all together to see if it improves. Again, only my contacts, notes and calendar backs up. No photos, videos and apps.
If I disable anything else, I might as well go back to my flip phone :)
To be honest, I think that the batteries for the 6S, 7 and 8 can't keep up with IOS 13.
Also, why making phone calls drains the battery so fast?

While that is likely a factor to some degree, it seems that the type of drain that is being described by the OP is quite a bit beyond something like that.

I still suspect it’s either screen brightness or poor cellular reception resulting in battery drain.

I have been looking at some videos on YouTube and it doesn’t seem like iOS 13.2 does anything for battery life either, but something could still improve.

Sorry, I don’t think I have any ready solutions for you here.

Not the screen brightness since it is at the lowest and I also have the att microcell at home, so I have 4 bars all the time when I'm home.

iPhone 8. 85% of Battery health. Before iOS 13.1.3, my device was below 10% of battery after 24 hours with normal usage. Now it's around 40% in the same amount of time and usage.
That’s impressive. Can you post a screenshot of your usage over the last 10 days in the battery section? And your phone isn’t heating up like crazy doing light tasks? And how is the standby drain over 8 hours or so like overnight while sleeping? Does it lose like 5-10%

No, not at all.

And how is the standby drain over 8 hours or so like overnight while sleeping? Does it lose like 5-10%

According to the battery info, when I went to sleep it was on 52%, and when I woke up it was on 48%. So 4% overnight.

I’m running iOS 13.1.2 on a 3 year old iPhone 7 Which currently has only 82% battery capacity left on its original battery. I’m not experiencing any of the problems you are reporting, no battery drain or over heating etc.
Yes the battery does go down slightly quicker on iOS 13 compared to before, but the difference is minimal, i.e roughly the same amount of usage that would have taken the battery down to 40% during the day before now takes it down to around 30% on ios13. From 100% to 0% will get me roughly 6-7 hours screen on time.
note: I updated over iTunes not OTA

You are getting 6-7 hours of on screen time on a full charge on an iPhone 7 with 82% battery capacity?

I don’t think I was getting that even with iOS 12 on iPhone 7 with battery that was in the 90%s. Currently with iOS 13 and battery capacity at 88% I’m at around 4-5 hours of on screen time usually.

Yeah that’s why I’d like to see his usage chart.

I can barely squeak out 4 hours of screen on time per day with my 7 that is currently on iOS 12.4.1. with a 94% year old battery. That’s just a mixed day of usage where I’m coming and going from home WiFi and using some lte and being outside a little and inside mostly.

The only way I could see someone getting that kind of screen on time was if they set the brightness really low and let it play Netflix till it died but nobody does that.

My iphone 7 is having the same problem after updating to ios13 too

Can u tell me what exactly “Turned off analytics” is?

I noticed the “product analysis” under “system service” uses the location service quite often. I’m wondering whether i can turn it off without compromising the performance

sometimes yes, but it really does depend on what I’m doing. On a average day, browsing the internet, messaging, Facebook, bit of YouTube etc it’ll do 6 hours+ to empty if I were to need it to. If I do something cpu intensive like playing a game (not something I do every day), it might only get 4-5 hours then I guess. Mines Quite good overall considering the battery condition, but then again it was doing about 8-10 hours usage from a full charge 3 years ago on ios10 when new.

Hi guys

Need your advice. I have an XR that was purchased in March, now coconutBattery shows 88 cycles and 98% battery health.

I'm just wondering, is this ok? I mean losing 2% of battery capacity in 6-7 months..
