Anyone notice a change? Mine (the meter at least) has gotten a lot better.

I've noticed that my battery life is now more sporadic. This morning I woke up to 17%, which is what I was expecting from the last time I used it. A little while later, it dropped all the way to 3%. I tried to reboot it, but it wouldn't boot up. So I plugged it in to a power source. Finally, it would boot up and the battery would briefly say something like 16-19%, then it would immediately drop back down to 5%. Just now when I got to work, it was 25% while plugged in my car charger. I unplugged it, walked inside, and it said it was 35%.

I don't know what is going on. Any thoughts on what I should look at or steps I should perform? Should I do a complete reset?

i must say that i have seen great improvement in battery life... usually im down to about 20% around 8pm.. last night i was at 40% at 10pm..

i think you should recalibrate your battery.. let it fully die. and then charge it fully without unplugging it..

I wish I knew but my phone is Jailbroken and would rather not go for the upgrade to lose that.

This seems to be my option as well--it does not nosedive quickly like it did before--much more consistent as it drains down.

I had the same thing happening yesterday morning.
First time ever the phone died on my like this because there was no power...
I'm following this, if it does it again, I'll go to the Apple Store to replace it.
Have not time to wait until Apple fixes the OS properly...

Mine seems to have gotten better but that could be the replacement phone. :p All in all 3.1.3 seems to read out better percentages. I wont wake up fully charged and have 95% anymore. :)

+1. The update had nothing to do with battery life, just the meter accuracy.
The iPhone uses that to 'auto shutdown' when the battery is almost out of life. If it now looks like you have 10 percent more, than you can use it for 1/10 longer than before.

I am still disappointed by the duration of the battery of the iPhone. Last week I could not last a day of battery from fully charged to less than 10%.

This week I can only have 2 full days of usage to go from 100% to zero.

I understand the various reasons for the battery to go down this fast, but c'mon Apple, Blackberries and Nokias have much better battery life than 2 days at full usage...

I seem to have even less battery life than before. Miserable instead of pathetic.

Same here. I had a really good battery life before, like 3 days of heavy usage sometimes.
Now after even 12 hours, most of the time idle, the battery is empty. This is pathetic.
Tried a restore, battery calibration, soft reset and all the kind of things I read on the web. Simply upgrading to 3.1.3 killed my battery life... and to think the changelog said the battery accuracy would be better

My wife and I both recently upgraded our iPhone's to the 3.1.3 firmware, and since then our battery life has decreased HORRENDOUSLY!

We both have the original iPhone 3G.

Mine is the same way (3GS 32GB.. pre-ordered minutes after announced). It's forced me to become a phone charger hobo... I need to carry a charger and plug it in at around 4 in the afternoon.

I'm a pretty heavy user myself and I charge it every night. Around 2300/midnight my battery is usually down to 20-25%.
When I'm sleeping it is always charging, so it is full every morning.
and it seems to be more accurate after 3.1.3
12 hours isn't enough, that's for sure, get a battery replacement or get guarantee service, I would say.

Why are people having problems with charging it every night?

I don't have a problem with charging it every night but the difference between 3.1.2 and 3.1.3, at least for me, is not normal. Just after the update it won't even last 24 hours, before with the exact same type of usage I could sometimes use it for 3 days before charging.
Left home at 9:30 when it was at 100%, I'm at the office at 11:00, didn't TOUCH the device yet, not even a simple unlock to check the screen (except just now) and it is already at 79%. How is that possible!!
