yeah well, umm, my brand new 13" macbook air only gets about 2-3 hours of battery life with the screen brightness only 5-6 clicks up. i'm very disappointed because the main reason i bought this thing was for portability and battery life. i'm thinking now maybe i should return it. is anyone else experiencing this??

I've had mine about 3 days now. I'm easily getting the advertised 7 or more. Brightness around 70%, a few Safari windows opened, even copying some files back and forth across the network doesn't seem to be hurting anything. As I type, I have 78% remaining after about 100 minutes of working on an essay in GoogleDocs and browsing around for research info at the same time (plus getting distracted at MacRumors).

All that being said, my projected time does tank as soon as I start watching videos on Youtube...

Seems like you are the only one. Clearly looks like there is a hardware issue with your machine. Take it into the genius bar at your local Apple Store or call Apple support.
