Good morning all,

was curious if anyone has taken advantage of the $30 battery replacement program still going on and if so what was the experience like?

Booked an appointment for later today to get my iPhone 7 Plus changed out and just wanted to see if many had to wait on the battery to be ordered and come back at a later date for the replacement or was it taken care of the same day you booked your original appointment?

Thanks!

I scheduled an appt. for my X a few days ago but after checking in, waited 28mins and then I left to get to work. I'm going to try again, but maybe my store just sucks. My X capacity is at 89% which seems way lower than many I've seen for a year of use.

I've heard it takes about an hour for the actual replacement.

When I took my 6S and 8 in for battery replacements recently (in the UK), I was seen within 5 minutes of appointment time and had to leave the phones with them for two hours.

Just replaced my 6S+ battery a month ago.

Like what others said, it depends on their available manpower and the amount of load they are handling on that day.

I handed over my phone at approximately 1:35pm... was told it will take 1-2 hours (guess that’s the official reply to all customers).

I got a text message from them at 2:05pm that my phone was ready. So that’s around 20 minutes for the battery replacement. I guess I was lucky that they weren’t that busy, so ymmv. Overall great and speedy service with no hiccups.

When I scheduled an appointment for my 6S they offered a same-day at an authorized third party called Mobile Kangaroo. In and out in about 20-25 minutes.

The battery capacity on my release date X is down to 90%. I was originally planning on having it replaced in December, but will probably have it done next week, in order to avoid a possible last minute rush of users looking to take advantage of the $29 pricing.

Those who have already had their batteries replaced, is there anything I need to be aware of prior to handing my phone over to Apple? I heard that they reset the phone to factory settings, so I'll do a full backup prior to my appointment. What about the screen protector? Will it be removed during the process?

Thats crazy, I scheduled for now to avoid the same last minute rushes also. My store had a lot of open slots for today, hopefully it doesn't take long and that they actually have a battery in stock.

I did a complete backup as well, I've heard the same thing as you. Not sure about screen protector, but I wouldn't see why that would be removed.

I work 2 blocks away from an Apple Store and they have plenty of available appointments every day. I'm not in a rush to change the battery, but I'm keeping my phone until the next release cycle and would definitely like a fresh battery at the current price. As long as they process the replacement at $29, I don't mind waiting a few days if they don't have batteries in stock.

Totally understandable. Mine is working decently but feel like I'd be doing myself a disservice by not taking advantage of the cheaper replacement.

I know others have a much further drive than I do at 20 mins to a store but would like to not have to drive back at a later date.

They would advise you to do a backup, in case they messed up the repair and something goes wrong. They will also inform you to turn off 'Find my iPhone' for some reason.

I got back my 6S Plus with all my settings, apps and everything intact - they did not reset my phone to factory settings upon battery replacement.

They will remove your phone case and give it to you before the replacement process. I'm unsure about the screen protector because I only installed my tempered glass after the battery replacement.

Thanks for the info. I'll definitely back my phone up. With regard to the screen protector, the one that's currently installed on my phone is in need of a replacement anyway (the oleophobic coating wore off months ago), so I'll use that as an excuse to do it.

i got mine replaced a month or so ago. Had to wait over 3 hours to get it back even with an appointment. The whole Apple Store experience feels more and more like sitting at a hospital waiting room.

The „whole please sit down“ is also annoying like „do they even remember me? Did they forget me?“there should be some next in line display or something.

You "must" turn off "Find My iPhone" first in iCloud and a backup is recommended. Nothing was affected or changed. Skin cover unaffected by suction instruments used. No experience re: screen protector though which might be problematic.

They make you turn find my iPhone off since their system won't physically allow them to process any repairs if FMI is switched on. This is to stop people being able to get "faulty" stolen phones replaced - which used to be a big problem.

I actually had an appointment today for my iPhone X. I live in the UK - it was relatively easy. I too was looking to take advantage of the £25 replacement. I feel it's a small price to pay for some good longevity.

My appointment was at 11, and was seen by 11:05. The appointment takes about 10-15 min for them to take a look at your phone, get correct diagnostics etc. After that, you shut off find my phone, and the phone itself and it took them about an hour/hour and a half. I went back at 12:30, was a bit more busy. was seen by 12:40 and out of the store at 12:45. Pretty seamless I have to say.

I took my friend's iPhone 6s for a battery replacement. This was my experience.

1. Made a Genius appointment online for a battery replacement.
2. Showed up, checked in, waited on a tech.
3. Tech came over, we sat down, he ran a diagnostic test on the iPhone. He said the battery is still 85% health, no need to replace it.
4. I said I want it replaced anyway, I'm willing to pay the $29.
5. They took the iPhone, gave me a paper ticket, told me to come back in 2 hours.
6. Came back in 2 hours, checked in again, waited for them to retrieve the iPhone from the back, gave them my ticket, signed and paid for the battery replacement.
7. Battery Health now shows 100% and phone blazing fast again & my friend is a happy clam.

Make sure to inspect and document the phone you give in - take pics and if you have no physical damage on it ensure that the genius knows it. I have had several friends whose iphones came back with cosmetic damage, one was fine cause he documented prior to giving the phone it, the other one couldn't do anything because he didn't have proof that housing wasn't scratched prior to battery replacement. If that happens to you - have them rectify it.

I didn't have a replacement under the $30 program but did have one done free when one of the iOS updates caused battery drain issues with my 6s. At that time, they did not have the battery in the store, so I had to make two trips. The first was to run the diagnosis and confirm replacement for the battery drain. A week later, I went back to have the battery replaced.

My experiences were much as described. Do a backup, they'll have you sign out of iCloud. They gave me a 2 hour window, texted me when finished. I think it was just over an hour. They'll have you remove the case, screen protector wasn't a problem. The phone has been working great ever since, my father is now using it.

Great advise to take photos of your device to ensure damage is covered.

Since there were many available appointments at the Apple Store near my work (West 14th Street in Manhattan), I decided to schedule one for 12:40 p.m. and take a walk over. To make a long story short, my phone will be ready in about an hour and, since I have Apple Care+, the battery will be replaced free of charge. The tech also informed me that they will have to replace the speaker as part of the battery swap, due to the way the internals in the iPhone X are arranged. All in all, a very quick and painless check-in.

Made an appointment for my wife’s 7 plus on Monday. In and out in 5 minutes but the repair took an hour. They still did their usual diagnostic and everything passed. Battery on iOS reported 87 percent, but coconut battery reported 90%. All was good.

After the repair, I noticed that there was a dead pixel or dust inside the screen which I showed it to the technician and was strange. Technician put a note in the serial and if it’s bothersome that they will replace it at no cost.

Perfect thread... and information here... I wanna do a battery replacement in the next weeks as well... and was wondering if I had to do anything before bringing it in besides a backup, so this thread helped me! Thanks everyone!

Just went back to pick up my phone. It was returned to me with no scuffs and the tempered glass screen protector was still intact. No factory reset was performed, either.
