I’m slowly creeping up on the 3rd anniversary of getting my iPhone 15 Pro Max already. Geez time flies as I’m getting older. So I called a local Apple authorized dealer to find out how much it will cost to have them replace the battery. They quoted $119. That seems expensive to me, and I’m sure it was only $79 the last time I paid for a battery replacement for my iPhone 8+. Is that a fair price?

Yes, I have AppleCare, but I doubt it will cover this.

I wasn’t joking when I said I want to keep this iPhone 2 more years.

Why are you dealing with a local authorized Apple dealer and not Apple? The 15PM is well within the service envelope, and Apple's price will be cheaper.

I've used a third party before. Cost me over $100 for my iPhone 6+. That was about two years ago and the phone in question isn't even a tertiary phone. But I paid it because Apple wouldn't replace the battery. I disagreed with the genius as to why I needed a new battery and doing the replacement wouldn't have helped his sales metrics. So, the third party is where I ended up.

The cost of your authorized Apple dealer is in line with a third party vendor's cost.

Then you are paying a premium to avoid all that.

An alternative might be Apple's mail-in service. But I don't know if that covers batteries or not. And it would mean being out your device for a time.

Did my Iphone 14 Pro Max and the wife's Iphone 14 Pro(both below 79% capacity after 3 years), last month at the Applestore (two hours away from me). Took them about an hour to do both phones, so we went window shopping at the various stores while waiting for them. The cost on both phones was $0 since we have Applecare on them.

After the battery replacement, we dropped the monthly Applecare Subscription. We have concluded if the phone breaks or has an issue then we will upgrade to whatever the current model is. We anticipate that these replacement batteries should last us a maximum additional time of 3 years or so. More than enough time until we upgrade again. ..... And to be honest our 14 Pros are meeting our needs at this time anyway. So no hurry, perhaps we will change our minds after the 18 Pro comes out and the big rush for whatever new color is popular is over, thus we can make a calm and studied choice.

After quite a while stuck at 80% with abysmal battery life, my 15 Pro finally hit the “service” condition at 79% health at some point recently. I say “at some point” because it did not pop up any kind of alert and I just happened to notice because I opened the Battery settings to check. Anyway, for anyone with a dying battery, you might have to go in and manually check from time to time.
