There is one port and many people said their Kindle's haven't been a problem, which also has.. one port. So how is this any different?!
I’ve taken kindles, iPads, and iPhones to the beach. I’m pretty careful not to cover them in sand, but it’s definitely doable. I care the least what happens to a kindle, since they’re plastic, waterproof and relatively cheap. I found the beach just to be too bright for an iPad. At least for me. Even under an umbrella (because of the brightness of the sand and how it reflects light into my eyes vs the screen…unpleasant). Kindle really is excellent for the beach or lake or whatever type of outdoors you prefer.
The other thing I’ve found is that once I’m in the sun, near the water, all screens lose their appeal for me. I prefer to just enjoy the place, go into the water, laze in the sun.

Have FUN! I can’t wait to spend a week or two at the beach later this summer. The weather is still too unpredictable here (NY). I’ll probably go in late Jul or early Aug. ??

I have beaches all around me, I would never take either of them to the sand. If you are using them outside the sand areas then its fine like in a room, balcony w view of the beach etc. But I would not carry it anywhere where sand is at plus summer beach heat will cause your devices to overheat and shut down. Plus the sun is so bright you wont' be able to see the screens well.

You forgot the most important one of all, sunscreen, wouldn't want your iPad getting sunburnt ??

I’m scared to even take my 12.9 to the next room  too big and thin. Also I don't like sand. It's all coarse, and rough, and irritating. And it gets everywhere.
