I have latest version updated and on an SSD.

It is really frustrating as I am trying to do my thesis this year.. any ideas or do I just have to wait for update, i have no other idea what it could be.. is this a problem others have experienced?

I had chronic beachballing on my Mac Pro 4,1, was starting to think it was a drive issue at first. After some trouble shooting found it was caused by duplicate fonts ad 3 damaged fonts.

So suggest you run Font Book.app
1 - Check for Duplicates
2 - Validate Fonts
3 - Replace / trash any damaged fonts.
