I use IM+ Lite. It's free and includes what the full version does except for skype chat and facebook chat which I don't use anyway.

Hmmm...$10 once vs. an extra $15 a month every month...I'm going to go with noooooooo on this one.

how about 0$ once and BeejiveIM 3.0 + TextFree Unlimited.

the only thing i don't like about Beejive is you can't select numbers to just plain text to from your AIM list. then again this is day 1 of using it for me maybe it's somewhere else...

until then textfree will remain on my springboard.

Does the AIM app keep you logged in after you close it? I have a suspicion it doesn't... Or at least not for more than a few minutes.

Beejive costs some money because it's EXCELLENT.

I don't know ANYONE that has bought beejive and regretted it.

I bought it in anticipation of the Push ability and the high praise of the UI and stability. I regret it at this point. The 3.0 update has been a buggy unreliable mess and I think for the premium price I paid for it, I have a right to expect the app to be much better than what they released for the 3.0 launch. In fact, it feels rushed for the 3.0 launch and needed more dev time. At this point, if I could get my money back, I would since it almost unusuable.

I also think the UI needs some work which let me down based off some of the issues it has. I didn't expect it based off the UI praise. I only used the previous version for a day but at least 3.0 addressed some of those issues. The biggest issue is how it handles groups, or should I say the lack of how it handles groups. No way to organize them, but at least you can minimize them which I'm surprised nobody complained about before. The UI isn't bad, but it still needs some work.

If you are willing to pay for a quality IM app, get beejive. If you don't want to pay that much, get the free aim app.

Easy right? You would think.
