I do not buy directly from Apple because you get charged full price from them with no cash back. However I've put in orders from a few retailers now, to have them cancelled or told it'll be two months and then cancelling them myself to order somewhere else. Like the 32 Core model is the Holy Grail or something, you cannot get it from anywhere. I cancelled my order from November in January, I ordered another one and was still waiting for it in March, so I cancelled that and ordered from somewhere else and I'm still waiting on that order. Just contacted the company and they have no idea when they'll get stock in.

What is going on?

I don't want to cancel this order though as I got 7 percent cash back from Quidco on it....

Delays have gotten much longer recently with the new shutdowns in China. I have one 14" that I ordered from Apple in early March and it now has a late June delivery date.

Shutdowns due to COVID in China. Also, at this point, bite the proverbial bullet and buy it from Apple. You'll end up waiting longer.

Your 7% cash back is theoretical because you can't get a computer through them.

If you had just ordered from Apple, you'd already be enjoying your computer.,

Becoming more common for vendors to promote lower pricing for items they can't deliver. Lead in for a bait and switch but in this case they forgot the switch. That said, every time the OP cancelled an order, he just put himself back to the end of a different line... He ought to cancel again and await the next round of upgrades as they are now much closer. Pay the Apple premium and get many months more use of his purchase. Use one of Apples no interest financing schemes. If he upgrades every few years he will be ahead of his present game.

2 months? Darn...
We’re in the process of remodeling our kitchen. The appliances we ordered 3 months ago were just delivered. And the remodeler is coming out to do an estimate in two weeks… two months after we scheduled it. I’ll be amazed if the remodel happens this year.

Welcome to the new normal…

At the risk of going political, which is why I don't get why companies move their operations to places like Mexico and Central America. They get the benefits of cheap labor, huge tax breaks and quicker/cheaper shipping times.

Why the insistence of doing business in Asia.

Probably just a guess money?
Asia probably has a **** ton of manufacturing and know how to get things done.
Lets face it Latin America needs more hand holding.

Have you been to Latin America? Again, it's cheaper to do stuff in Latin America and turn time is quicker. There is a reason why the overall production of car parts is made in Latin America v Asia.

All non-standard models are a Holy Grail at this time, and no matter where you order it from, it takes about the same time.

I ordered mine directly from Apple, it took almost two months to arrive directly from China.
And I paid with my Apple Card and got 5% cash back.
I prefer to buy from Apple directly.

Actually it seems that you cancelled your order when it was almost ready to ship. You should have waited a little longer.

No I spoke to them and they said they have nothing from Apple.

I just cancelled my final order as they said they have heard nothing from Apple in months and have no ETA....

I'm gonna wait for the M2 at this point after people saying here it's just gotten worse. Hopefully this means the end of China being the worlds factory and stuff like this never happens again.

has to do with skilled work force and logistics, car parts are inherently less skill specifics, that and the fact that it take a much more complex supply chain to produce advance electronics.

Apple itself doesn't even have these models to ship thanks to supply chain chaos. If Apple doesn't have them, resellers won't either. Your options include 1) order a base configuration, 2) check the refurbished store, 3) eBay, 4) waiting.

Bear in mind that the regular M2 laptop(s) will be released this fall and it will be mid to late next year before the M2BPs will show up. Regardless, I think you need to be prepared to buy right when they are available on the Apple.com otherwise delivery will drop to a month or two due to high demand, especially if you want a lot of RAM or a big SSD.

You're going to be "waiting" quite a while.

Have you? I have been to Latin American and frequently to Mexico, not just touristy places either, in Monterrey where all these factories are 2 hours south of good ol USA.

Do you know for a fact it's not cheaper in Asia, they've been at this a lot longer, and if you know an Asian workers they know how to work their ass's off. Not to say Latin workers are not, but my point was Laitn Americans have a more relaxed approach to life and this was referring to the comment of needing more hands on from outside. I got very accustom to 2 hour lunches in the afternoons with not much interest of going back in, I doubt they do this in Asia.

As for car parts, the reason is that free trade agreement has worked out between the 3 North American countries and big auto for this. If the Automakers had a choice they would have moved auto parts years, and years ago to Asia, but politicians and the unions won't have it, and rightly so that would be a massive job kill. But as you can see they are slowly getting their way.

Oh well.. just don't expect a MBP M2 Max any time soon, I read somewhere that it would be 2023 or 2024.
If China is having issues manufacturing due to lockdowns, it will affect the whole industry, and some will take advantage to raise prices on what's available.
Why don't you try to order from Apple and see what ETA you get from them?

What?
You get 3% back using your Apple Card for payment in full OR 0% interest 12 month payment program... So yes there is cash back and on a nicely equipped $4,000 plus M1 Max it can be very good amount.

Yea not that mythical 7% but this 3% isn't a dream as you actually can get instead of being played.
Heck getting the 3% and then actually receiving the laptop has to be worth more than the 7% you obviously can't get and likely never will.
Why would they when the demand has outperformed the availability since its release. I mean haven't you seen this from the start?

Sorry I missed that 5% deal as I had already ordered than read about it once it was over but that was darn good deal. Either way I love my 16" Max. and would love it more with 5% instead of 3% back :) on my machine that would have been another $100 approx. And yes same here on the 2 month wait.
