I'm not one to b!tch and moan or complain how iCloud or other services are bad or terrible. For the most part I just shrug things off as I understand bugs an glitches happen. That said, I've been getting hammered with SPAM in my iCloud mail. It has also become unreliable. I was going to switch from Gmail for all my needs but now I think I better stay where I am.

This is something I don't understand. apple has all the resources they need. They have the power to hire the best engineers and programmers on the planet. Why is it that Microsoft can build a solid and reliable cloud solution and email service, as well as Google, DropBox, SugarSync and some others? Of all the mail and cloud services I use, Apple's is the least reliable. Why, for God's sake can someone explain this to me?

What kind of and how much spam are you seeing? Personally I haven't had a single piece of spam hit my account this year. Last time I saw anything was that Dr Oz stuff that was making the rounds late last year.

It's a bunch of meet chicks type of stuff. I don't open them but I can tell from the one line of text besides the title. I got about 20 to 25 today alone. FYI if you open them to read the spammers track that. So if you open them they'll flag your email address to send you more.

well im not sure if you could
but here are my options

1. get a new email and only use it for important stuff
or
2. somehow forward your emails to your gmail client and gmail will take care of the spam
or
3.manually block all the spammers over and over creating filters. for all the spammy stuff
overtime, it will be cleaner and cleaner

hope those ideas help
peace

Route your mails via Gmail. Gmail has an excellent SPAM protection, nothing can match Gmail in that regards.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. I happen to be familiar with all of them. My point is more as to why Apple with all their resources just can't get it right. That's what bugs me the most.

Works still better then Apple Maps.

It's not a profit maker and not their problem. Why would they care? There are not really a net company. Google is.

This has been happening to me too recently. Over the course of the past week or so I've gotten dozens of SPAM for all kinds of garbage. This is either a leak of Apple's addresses, or bots attempting every combination they can because I do not give out my @me address to anyone.

Very frustrating that despite marking them as spam, they continue to flood my inbox.

What have they gotten wrong here exactly? Your address getting into the hands of spammers is not really an Apple problem.

It is exactly an Apple problem. Apple can do a much better job of not allowing SPAM to get to your inbox.
I don't want to get into a long winded discussion, but I use my iCloud email address for friends, family and business associates. For purchases, forums and sites where you have to register I use different email accounts. So no, I did not provide my email account to spammers. More than likely its just a bot blasting out millions of SPAM emails which should be pretty easy to stop. Gmail, Yahoo, Outlook and even my own server webmail do a better job than MobileMe/iCloud has.

Also They can also do a better job of keeping services up and running. Between mail, iMessages and iCloud they have too much downtime. They need to work on that and make their services rock solid, which they are not at this point.

And FYI

A bot blasting out a bunch of spam like that would seemingly hit a lot more users. I'm not saying you necessarily gave out the address either....there are other ways for spammers to get a hold of your address. If you see something getting through forward it along to spam@me.com so they can use the messages to try and beef up the spam filter.

And the services stay up and running alright I think. Living in the cloud means there will be outages (Google just had a pretty massive one a week or so ago), so have a backup ready to go just in case if you are using any service as your main form of communication.

Trust me, I have multiple backups for everything I use that's cloud based. I learned my lesson about four years ago;)
And thanks for spam@me.com. This I did not know about.

I've had the same issue. Happened last year too, and started again about 10 days ago. I'm getting 25-30 spam emails a day, with a high enough spam score in the header that it shouldn't be hitting my inbox.

They're all very obviously spam emails and i'm doing all I can to teach iCloud what's junk and what isn't, but i'm getting fed up of using my data allowance when out and about and not on wifi to download junk.

I've logged support calls with Apple support, who have told me to do everything i've already done (rules etc in icloud), and basically said it's not their issue as they have no control over who sends me email. Fair enough, i get that, but no other email account I have elsewhere has this issue, and i never had it before Mobileme moved to iCloud. No matter how many emails i'm forwarding to spam@me.com, the hits just keep on coming.

I also don't register with anything using my me.com address, i have gmail for that. And i don't appreciate being told it's my own fault for using it.

I don't see how hard it can be to run a decent spam filter on the back end. And no-one can get me a contact in the iCloud team to speak to about it.

Not just the Op, my account has been getting hammered with spam the last week or so. Yesterday I had over 1000 in 3 hours, with only a few variations on the email address. All seem to be from 'contact@******.com'. Subjects including 'Coffee Shop Millionaire', 'Hair Loss Solution', etc.

Get hundreds of the same mail all in a few minutes, then quiet, then hundreds with a different variation.

Definitely something not right!

I'm getting SPAM from these too and others, 50 -60 a day. Have done since the iCloud.com mail was added to my me.com mail. As others have said, I don't give out this mail address and I send all the spam as attachments to spam@me.com.

It's getting seriously annoying.

Getting about 100-150 a day, on an alias account I have never even used.
Along with that wonderful crap, I am getting it on my primary .mac account that I have never ever used, or given out except to apple.

Perhaps I should start forwarding my spam email to Tim Cook, about 1k a week- perhaps he will get on someones ass to fix it. His junk box too should be full by now.:p

For everyone getting hit with this spam....what type of address do you have? It is a common name type address (i.e., john@me.com, johnsmith@me.com) or is it something a bit more random (i.e., johnathome@me.com, johnatwork@me.com)?

Mine are all going to something@icloud.com. I've made the switch from @me about two months ago. Thankfully I'm not getting any on my @icloud aliases that I have set up.

I'm also not getting anywhere near 100-150. I'd have a canipshin if I did

The worst thing about it is that the emails are obvious spam messages with titles like "Free xxx webcams from Lisa" or some such crap. And no I don't troll porn sites and even if I did I'd give them a garbage email address I use for all garbage ;)

I've set up a rule on the web version of iCloud mail to send all the mail sent to anything@icloud.com to a temp mail folder. Now I'me going to send each days worth (around 60 mails) to spam@me.com and copy Tim Cook. I doubt it'll change anything but it's a solution to my spam mail problem for the moment.
