Beneath It All, Do You Still Like Your iPhone?

Beneath all it's problems, do you still like it? Like, a year from now, are you still going to think these are major issues or will you just learn to get along with them. I'm hoping to get one within a month and now I'm worried. I don't need a flash or custom ringtones really, I mean, it's fine without them. And I've used the keyboard for around 30 minutes and I could tell that you get better with it because I ended up being able to type full sentences with only 1-2 mistakes. It seems like a very nice phone and, currently, I need a new phone/iPod and I'm just wondering, are you still happy with your purchase or is it that bad?

I am very happy and I have gone through a number of phones/blackberries/WM smartphones trying to find something that I loved...I have finally found it in the iPhone. Even the things that I could complain about I can't really complain about. I am very please and the only reason I would replace it is if Apple release hardware updates that require buying a new one (meaning 3G or 4G, larger storage, etc.)

What problems?

You shouldn't base your purchase decision on forum posts. People go to forums to complain. They don't go out of their way to say everything's great.

Go to an Apple store and play around with it for a while. I realize people have had problems, but it seems like these "i can't activate" posts have died down considerably. I'll assume it's only because there aren't several hundred thousand people trying to activate at the same time.

I'm very happy with my iPhone.
 
I am very happy with it. I would like a faster network and expandable memory. otherwise, there is nothing I don't like about this phone
 
there are only 2 things I dont like about it, but I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1. every time i have an edge connection, and then i I loose it while browsing the web. this annoying message pops up!

2. safari crashes every once and a while, but when I relaunch it, every tab comes back just like before!

no regrets buying it!
I LOVE MY IPHONE!
 
It's the most impressive, coolest gadget I've ever used let alone owned. Couldn't be happier, and while I was having a hard time with the price tag before I bought it, it seems fully worth it now. Seriously, this thing is incredible.

I agree! I think this is the best electronics item (not just phone) that I have every owned or seen!!! I do wish it had 3G, but.... Just complaining.. :D

It is so awesome that I finally registered after about 4-5 years of just reading post here.

We didn't get flying-cars, but we have iPhone!

The impact on the industry will be awesome. I think it is underestimated, at the moment.

I really only have one functionality issue: it needs a Junk mail filter.

The "would like" list is also short: custom ringtones (like THAT's never been brought up); ability to login to YouTube to save favorites; saving images, etc., from Safari; some BT functionality would be handy, but not necessary.

I'm fairly confident at least some of these will show up in future updates.

Still amazed. :)
 
Yeah, the reactions of everyone seem to all be the same - that the phone even surpassed one's own high expectations, since seeing is believing and actually having one is way different than what the media we have seen before the 29th could have conveyed. The Jesus phone came, and now we are followers.
 
I will preface this by saying that I am a huge Apple fan. But, the iPhone not only met my expectations, it blew them away. Even my wife loves hers and she is never into these kind of things!
 
There's lots of improvements needed, but this thing is amazing. I can't imagine ever owning a traditional cell phone again. The stability of mine has been great. It hung-up one time on Friday nite when I tried to save a voicemail greeting, but I'm pretty sure it was the jammed-up network. It worked fine on Saturday.

This user interface is a historic accomplishment.

Yes it's expensive, but imagine how this device will change things over the next few years.

Storage is my only real disappointment. I can live with it. I just have to re-res a bunch of video.
 
love, love, love it. worth every penny and double or triple that to me. sure, there is room for improvement and i have a few complaints, but that's just being picky - this thing works better than any other "smartphone" out there. they should have called it something less limiting, like the iGod. the phone is just a bonus as far as i'm concerned.

"Beneath all its problems"?!? What problems? :confused: This gadget is PURE HEAVEN. I've never been so excited from a purchase.

the iphone certainly has problems. the software isn't the most stable, especially considering it's supposed to have os x under the hood. the iphone crashes on me while i'm listening to music and browsing at the same time. it wasn't just my iphone either. display models at the apple store all did this, and i was able to crash every one i was able to get my hands on. forum posts also confirm this. and here's a quick test for you: in cover flow, try tapping really fast on one side to scroll through the albums. don't flick it; just tap it really fast, and i'm sure the ipod app will crash on you.

another issue that bothers me is the lack of a chat client, but the thing that bothers me most is email. gmail is fine, but my yahoo wouldn't work at first. i reasoned the problem was that i pay for pop access, so i can retrieve/send email from my mac. i added the yahoo account under pop settings, which worked, but causes my mac not to be able to retrieve email unless i re-enter my password. it's frustrating. so, problems? yes, the iphone has them. your experience may be just fine, but it's clearly not that for a lot of users on this forum, and i didn't even mention the activation (it was a breeze for me).

with all that said, i love my iphone. i still prefer it to every other phone i've owned, and i can't imagine letting this go for anything but another apple-branded phone. it's all about the software, and i'm hoping all my issues can be resolved with updates.
 
I'm sure flash and custom ringtones will be added soon, they are minor for me (on a phone) - I'm loving the iPhone, and excited to see what will come in future software updates. the PS3 transformed itself over the first 6 months via firmware updates. I'm guessing we'll see a similar trend, although the iPhone seems fairly stable as it is (minor annoyances).

what is going on here has little to do with your iphone and more to do with your computer and iphone checking for mail at the same time that your computer does. i had my desktop keep asking for my password today and i was not thinking it was related to the iphone so i didn't put the issue together until i read your post pointing to the iphone as the culprit. i have several computers and occasionally have had two mail programs open both checking mail. when this happens, the server returns an error because two computers shouldn't be able to check for mail at the same time. that is why it asks you to re-enter your password. i guess it's a "security" feature on the email server. that explains why it was not happening EVERY time it checked mail but periodically (as in whenever it happened to check it at the same time as the iphone).... so try to change the intervals at which it checks (or have one set to manual) and this should solve your problem. i don't think this happens with imap - are you a yahoo business mail user?
 
its awesome!!!

I got my phone on Friday and didn't get it activated until today. I had to wait 31 hours before I could use it, just sitting there staring at it. No need to say I was extremely mad BUT its working great now and I must say it far exceeded my expectations.
 
i really love this thing! it's so much better than i thought it was gonna be. i wasn't expecting the keyboard to be nearly as easy to use and the touchscreen response puts all those negative rumors to rest. and EDGE isn't that bad, actually.

thanks for that post/pm. i wondered what was going on there. i changed my interval settings on my computer to check every 15 minutes instead of every five, and i hope that will fix that issue. i'm accessing yahoo mail via pop and not imap, which allows for mail.app to retrieve my mail. the base yahoo account doesn't let you do that, so i had to upgrade to the mail plus account.
