Neutron Player, the UI is quite rudimentary but you won't find a better sounding player.

Dislike the new update to Google Play Music.

Might try Rocket Player...

Any other recommendations to try?

The default or what I assume the default music player on my SII sucks so I bought PowerAmp roughly a year ago. It's much easier to work with but I keep running into abrupt pauses now and then with and without any custom skins.

Anyone know any good music players out there with the ability to skip tracks from the lockscreen like PowerAmp? I tried N7 and absolutely hated the interface and all the folders created /background downloading it did.
Ive been using Poweramp for years and the only pauses ive had is when i dont have it on silent and it pauses when i get a notification. Its a great player. The only other one ive used is the stock Samsung player.

EDIT**
Just realized this is a old thread.

Slightly on/off topic ... Is there any third party player that can access/play user owned content stored on the Play Music servers?

There must be one, but why not just use google music ? I know on Windows Phone there is an app called cloud music that allows you to access play music servers - so i'm sure there must be an android equivalent somewhere.

I've tried at least 20 players on Android.

The most important thing for me is speed, not just the speed of the application, but the speed of accessing information. My primary tabs are: Artist, Songs. I'd like access to them as fast as possible with some nice but not overdone animations.

My favorites are:

Pixel Player Pro - The last version before the dev ruined it. Awesome player! Lightweight, fast, beautiful, very well thought out (again, before it was ruined for whatever reason). You can browse artist, then tap on the artist, a window opens, with albums, tap on all songs, you get all songs... and it's all right there in front of you, you don't go deep into movies.
NexMusic+ - There are actually several applications that look very, very similar to this, my guess is that all these devs are using the same libraries. But NexMusic+ is still the best in them, it's got a beautiful view for when you tap on the artist from the list, it displays all the songs right there on the view (you get artist artwork, albums, songs on my page). The player view is great! And when you swipe up, you get the playlist queue. I might've used this is my main player, but what is bad is that the playlist queue does not auto queue songs from the artist you're listening to like the other players do.
Jair - Very good player, classic layout, nice animations, works fast and smooth, and what I like about this player is that when you tap on the artist of your choice, it goes straight into the Songs tab, not the Albums tab.

All three have colour customizations.

You could also try: XDA DARK MATERIAL MUSIC PLAYER. It's a very nice player, but resource intensive.

Thumbnails included are in the following order: Pixel, Nex, Jair.
