Northern California
It was my birthday, and I got a Best Buy gift card. So I went to Best buy yesterday to get an iPhone 16 GB 3GS and they were out! They only had the 32 GB. I was unhappy. They told me that at least the whole Northern California and Nevada is depleted and have no date for replenishing their stock.

Now I have a Best buy gift card and no iPhone.

Sad.

Also, they advertised their warranty and I thought to be far better than apple care since they will replace the iphone even on accidental damage. So, I stumbled with this in their own forums.

What do you think?

What do we think about what? Basically you want a phone but demand is higher than supply. Perhaps you can just wait?

What do you think?
Best Buy Mobile accidentally replaced the guys 16GB phone with an 8GB, and the store manager was a dick about helping the guy get it fixed promptly?

Sounds more like there's a problem with that store manager than there is a problem with their warranty.

It did sounded like that. But I was curious if this insurance is too good to be true. I don't mind waiting. I guess I am somewhat venting at the fact that they did not provided a solid answer of when to expect it.

The warrenty is great, they have to hold up to it, it's a contract. You also have to have a major credit card for them to bill the 14.99 a month onto. Dude told me if I walked out and smashed it on the ground and broke the glass they would replace it right then, better than applecare.

If you wanted an iPhone, they should have never given you a Gift Card (unless they were unaware you were going to buy an iPhone).

Best Buy's warranty is acceptable, the service performed in that specific scenario was unacceptable. Again, it's more a managerial issue, than a warranty issue. I didn't know BB offered an accidental insurance. I may direct my Mom there as she is scared about dropping her phone.

EDIT: $15 a month for accidental insurance? No thanks. That's a giant rip-off. I'll stick to Squaretrade.com @ $4.

Wait a while. Honestly, not getting an iPhone is not the end of the world. Also, give it a week, you'll see they will be in stock again.

Or if you like, you can call every Best Buy near you and see if the have 16GB iPhone 3GS. Best Buy sometimes lies in their inventories to sell more. Saying stuff, like we are out, just to make it seem they are selling more than what they actually are.

yeah definitely.
I'd rather take my chances and if it does happen pay the $199 to get it replaced by apple. Really, the BB insurance would only save you what, $20? over the course of a year IF something did happen

here is what you do

talk to the salesmen or sales manager ask them what day the stock comes in if it's daily or weekly get to know them a little. call them 1st thing in the morning or when they say that stock comes in if you are nice they will keep a eye out for you. also you could tell everybody the 32gb is only a $100 more a better investment. I also call other bestbuys as well you never know.

$15 is RIDICULOUS. Anyone who pays $15 for this insurance is a sucker, period.

agreed

15x12= $180 X 2 = $360  that's crazy what is bestbuy thinking I think at that price I would buy it smash it in front of him and say i'd like a new one I decided I like the other color better. they are crazy.

Wow is 15 a month really that bad? I kinda thought it was a rather decent price since AT&T doesn't offer insurance on iPhones of PDAs. To each his own but I'd rather NOT pay for a iPhone at full price if something tragic did happen To my phone.

Yeah the best buy warranty is expensive. In my case it's been a great s
deal 3 times now. Two of the occurrence rendered the phone dead. It's expensive but cheaper than buying a new phone flat out.

No offense, it's stupid no matter how you look at it. You can have the same exact peace of mind w/ SquareTrade.

you can crack you screen get water damage at Apple will replace it for $199 so I still don't see this. plus even a broken non working cracked screen Iphone is worth fair money on ebay. ;)

In my case that would have been $600.

Man I read that thing about Best Buy protection plan, I bought my iPhone 32GB White one from them over a month ago, there were some minor issues on a brand new phone and account but everything works on the phone and I am very happy. On a side note I have purchased Geek Squad Black Tie protection plans from them in the past and returned them or got my money back because, one person who sold me the MacBook gave me a song and dance on the Black Tie protection, I read up went to another BB and asked questions, turns out their $399.00 plan for a uMB covered really nothing, and the fact that they do not repair them in house kills me, so I never buy any BB protection plan, in fact I rarely will buy from BB because of all of these issues, but like I said, I was lucky with my iPhone...

I am just really glad I did not buy into that $15 per month because I would be just as pissed and annoyed as that guy in the Forum article, so I bought the Apple Protection Plan, and I try my hardest to protect and care for my iPhone because I do not want to have to buy another at full retail costs if anything should happen, it hurts me to even think some ppl have to go thru that....Ouch :(

wowsers

I think your a great Otterbox candidate! isn't it just one exchange per warrenty? of course if I was in your place I be getting a new one every time too. how long a period was this. I am not trying to be a smart ass I promise. of course honestly I don't have to try! lol

just reading the above post and well not a geek squad fan they over charge and do little there was a case here in Michigan with a lawyer he collected lots of porn no big there that's what he was into he had over 50,000 porn files 3 of which were child porn not sure what age, but I feel 3 out of 50,000 there is a chance it was in accident and I am a parent that has no mercy when it comes to that. the geek squad turned him into the police now I also wonder how the geeks found the 3 out of the 50,000 anybody else see the squad pulling some late hours on this. I never heard what happend to this case in the end.
