I'm happy to report that my 2nd VP171s seems to be free of any defect (no dead or stuck sub-pixel).
Costco indeed seems to be a great place to buy stuff.
My cousins friend returned a PC after 2 years saying that it doesn't work, she was able to get a complete refund. Costco has by far the best return policy around, though I am certain that because of people doing what my cousins friend did those liberal policies will probably change in the near future.
