I like 17-40 mm L it is solid build and good for general shooting on a crop body . I do admit in low light it requires a flash more often then my 2.8 sigma. However the speed the focus and the price i got it for on craigslist makes it amazing. The 24-105 L is again a great crop body lens cause it gives you near perfect portrait in a zoom. The lens also has reach for when you need it. I also have a 70-200mm F4 why casue it is damn sharp and not overly priced. If you should used and deals you can get great L series stuff at almost non L prices .

I carry 4 lenses and a teleconverter when I travel with my 5dMkII:

1 EF 100mm 2.8 USM
2 EF 50mm f/1.8
3 EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM
4 EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM
5 EF 1.4X II Extender
6 and a Gitzo CF tripod
Lowepro Fastpack 250

This rig gives me a macro lens, a fast lens, a carry-around lens, a fast telephoto lens, a portrait lens, and up to 280mm focal length with L-ish quality throughout.

With the high-iso of the 5DMkII, I now drop the nifty-fifty. IMHO I think you'd be hard-pressed to come up with a better, more versatile rig with fewer lenses.

I had an Sigma 18-50mm that I was very happy with. I do not own, but covet the Canon 50 1.2!

Why has no one mentioned?

I'm surprised no one has really mentioned the 10-22...

Most fun lens I have ever shot with. Creativity allowed is limitless.
