I do not buy anything without trying. The store is a resource to see if you like a Zenfone which was on your list. If so, you can get the unlocked bigger brother from Amazon or wherever.

Doubt you will find the G to try, I know you can return it but at least you had a go with a smaller version Zenfone to fiddle with.

Good point, but right now it's narrowed down to keeping a Note 4 I bought on a cheap deal or going Galaxy Alpha since I want to use my Galaxy Gear and Moto 360 now that I actually thought about it. Waiting on someone to evaluate camera sensor to see if it needs replacing.

Just don't get anything with only 8gb of internal storage, even with sd storage. I can tell you from experience that it is really limiting, as is anything with 1gb of memory.

The Moto G I was considering has 16gb + 2gb of RAM. I wouldn't want to do that to myself since my og CDMA Moto G has 8 gb of memory and it's already full with just 500 songs.

Well, you can use the SD card for media storage. The problem is that without since trickery beyond my expertise, most apps have to live in the internal storage, severely limiting what you can do. Considering that my basic install of Android is like 3 it 4 gigs, I'm left with very little space, which I'm sure you're familiar with.

Google have made installing app data to SD-Card much easier / automated in lollipop though.

Go for the Moto G. It's just been released, so Motorola will be focusing on it. Old devices are unpredictable when it comes to Android.

I am in the market for a new low to mid-range Android device as well but for around $200.

My choices are:

Moto G (3rd Gen) - 179/219
Idol 3 (4.7") - 179
ZenFone 2 - 199

Right now, I'm leaning towards the ZP2 for $199. If only the Moto G had a better screen for the price.

That'd leave me with:

iOS: iPhone 6
Windows: Lumia 640
Android: ZenFone 2

I picked up an Idol 3 on the cheap that was preowned. For the money spent I can only say it was a total steal. Reading user reviews it isn't to the point of hit or miss as most are pretty favorable but mine is working great, even the double tap to wake and sleep. It is running 5.0.1. Happy camper here, I got the 5.5 display. Very good ergonomics, screen quality, and sound quality. Lag is pretty much nonexistent.

I've been looking at a UleFone Be Touch 2 - which looks very good for the price.

1080p 5.5" screen
3 GB RAM
16GB ROM (will take 64GB SD Card)
Finger print scanner, akin to the iPhone
Decent processor IIRC
Looks like an iPhone ;)

If anyone has any feedback on that model, would be appreciated

Thanks for the suggestion. I just got the ZF2 today, and I will be getting the Idol 3 tomorrow. I will use both of them for a week, and return the one I dislike. I like the ZF2 so far, but its a little on the heavy side. I was able to put CM 12.1 on it, so I have stock Android. As odd as this side, my major peeve with the ZF2 is the lack of lit capacitive buttons. It's driving me crazy! Lol.

Depends on what is the important factors for the owner of each of these smartphones. I think it is close to 50/50 for which one is ultimately kept.

I tried the zenfone 2e smartphone at an AT&T store many times and was very impressed for $120 but it was not unlocked and the display was only so so.

For the price I paid for the Idol 3 I could not get the Zenfone 2 for and the Idol has more storage space.
