I'm still using my good old Logitech "M-BA47". When it dies, I plan on keeping the shell and re-building it with components from another logitech optical mouse.

I may be too late - but if I were to replace my MX Revolution - I'd likely replace it with the G700.

http://www.logitech.com/en-us/mice-pointers/mice/devices/7244

It goes wireless AND wired, and has enough buttons to maintain the functionality of the thumb-wheel the MX Revolution has.

Because after you map OSX to that thumb wheel - it's nightmarish to use an Apple without it. (show desktop is wheel in, dashboard is wheel back, and application windows is wheel forward) So at this point, I could not go on in OSX without my thumb in control.

It spoils you, seriously.

That mouse looks crazy awesome - wish it had native OS X support. How do you have yours configured?

I used to use the MX Revolution, which was the best mouse I'd ever used. I then opted for the Performance when it came out because of the Darkfield laser tracking and the USB charging and I can now say that THIS mouse is the best mouse I've ever used!!

I'm sorry, but no mouse thread is complete without a reference to the puck mouse.

That said, I am pretty happy with my magic mouse, as long as I'm not gaming on it. When I need distinct left/right buttons, I always reach for my trusty Logitech. They've always made great mice.

For starters - I ordered the MX700 - so it should be here in the next few days (snowstorm!) I'll post in here with my findings.

That said - for the MX Revolution and the G5 I use Steermouse to map all my buttons. I love this app - it's worth every penny IMO. I got the MX Revolution in 2006 near it's launch - and the Logitech drivers with it were utter crap - I almost returned the MX until I found Steermouse.

I posted my button-map a while back - be forewarned I'm a little.... odd...

I actually like my Magic Mouse a lot, although I know it won't suit everyone and it sucks for gaming. The only mice I've ever hated though is the Mighty Mouse and the Pro Mouse. They annoyed me something rotten and I'd always bring my own cheap usb mouse to college instead due to it.

I thought Magic trackpad was the dumbest idea when they first came out, but then I got my hands on one and learned how to use guestures and now I'll never go back.

I found it awful. Couldn't get the hang of it at all, and I found it quite uncomfortable to use.

I sold it, and the guy who bought it loves it. I guess it's a preference thing. :)

I think I'm the only person who likes the Logitech drivers - they work fine for me. *shrug*

Same. I still have it, but... originally, I had the Mighty Mouse (which failed a few months ago), so I then tried the Magic Mouse (sucked) and the Magic Trackpad was the last straw. Which is why I posted this thread. :D

Got the G700 mouse today - and it's a mixed bag, but can be great if I can get the additional buttons working...

Out of the box here is what I'm finding:

Tracking - beautiful, fast, no jumping - and able to adjust DPI with 5 settings (on the mouse) on the fly, have not even touched any settings in OSX (don't really need to with this).

Scroll wheel: Manual switch (button located right behind it) toggles between "free spin" and "clicky" feels very similar in weight / tactile response to the MX Revolution - sans automatic transmission.

Body feel: Nearly identical to the MX Revolution - however no soft rubber on the sides (but decent textured plastic) - the left and right click buttons seem very easy to depress (by mistake) but this could be just my fat hand at work. However the MX did not have this issue, nor does my G5. The weight is on par to the MX Revolution - feels nice.

Enhanced functionality: All 4 thumb buttons ARE recognized by Steermouse, however the Scroll Left/Right currently is NOT, and buttons G8, G9, G10 and G11 are not recognized either. This said - G9 and G10 are mapped to the DPI increase/decrease. G11 is mapped to "preset mode" - which (as far as can see) remaps the other G buttons. So I'm not sure if G9/10/11 can support alternative functions or not.

As far as I can tell - no OSX support from Logitech (as of yet), and Steermouse picks up some of the slack to make it bearable. I've emailed my findings / button reports to the developer - so perhaps in the near future, this thing may be unlocked to it's full potential?

So - if you can sacrifice side scrolling for the time being - this is a great mouse. However I would advise waiting otherwise.

Logitech Control Center doesn't work with it? It works fine for my MX Revolution and the MX Anywhere. It also worked for my Performance MX at work.

After your comment - and the fact it's been a couple years since my last foray into Logitech drivers I gave it another shot.

Oh (#*$ do I regret this decision! COMPLETELY (#*$ed my (#*$ up. Constant system hangs, crashes, and icing on the cake here - it won't even recognize the G700 (at all) after all the updates. And as for my Dinovo Edge - it at least recognizes that.... but gives me (#*$-all for configuration options. I even uninstalled my Steermouse app prior to this, and still epic fail abounds.

The powers that be obviously do not want me using this software. Had this same CF back on Tiger when I first got the MX - un(#*$ed it and went Steermouse. Now on Leopard (years later) and got the same result. Problem is, no uninstaller or script bundled with the Control Center - so manually un(#*$ing now.

Mate, I'm glad it works for you (and everyone else) but as for myself - never again. I'm having so many bizarre issues now, a reformat / reinstall is now on the table. :(

Wow, that is some crazy stuff going on. I'm sorry to hear that. I have installed the LCC stuff on three or four systems and never had problems with it. Weird. Steermouse was good, but I'm too cheap to buy it. :)

They needs to make mouse sizes for your hands like they do shoe sizes. That's for sure.
