I got my Dell 2405 for $500 in April. Best $500 I've spent in a long time! I got in on a great deal for a new one. But even at $700 its a great deal with all the additional inputs.

Personally. I am going with a 23" ACD. Having a Dell LCD hooked up to a Mac Pro seems... wrong.

I'd say get a Dell- much cheaper then Mac display and almost just as good... And just do what I do.. Take off the DELL logo on the bottom, putty over it and paint or marker it over in black :) Can't tell the difference!!

It also seems mindnumbingly stupid that you care about what other people do.

Pay more and get a great monitor. Samsung 244t is pretty much wiping the floor with everything else right now. The Dell's are having lots of problems (look in their forums) and the Apples are widely thought to be overpriced for their performance. While the ACD are beautiful, their color reproduction and speed aren't great.

I can contest to that. The Samsung monitor is very high quality and very vivid.

It looks like places sell either the black and the silver samsung - the black is available more widely but the silver definitely looks better and would match a mac.

If anybody knows the cheapest place to get the silver samsung 204B, let me know. Best I've seen is $300 w/free shipping.

I am having a tough time deciding whether to go with Apple or someone else for my display. With the EDU the 23" isn't a bad price. I don't think at least. the 20" is a rip compared to other displays.

Hehe...I think you meant attest. I read your post at first and thought, no way, someone is saying that monitor isn't good? Oh wait...I see.

I almost went for the silver one and decided it wasn't actually metal but painted plastic so am getting a black one instead. Keep in mind, that the edu discount is going to have tax tacked on so that makes it more. The price difference between edu for the 23" (My edu discount puts it at $863) and the Samsung 244t is virtually nil (buy.com has it for 888.89 free shipping, others cheaper) with no tax and the 244t is a much better monitor. I'm all for supporting Apple and paying their high prices on stuff, but the displays are currently way overpriced.

Plus, Samsung has a 3 yr warranty (with free shipping if repairs are required) whereas most others are all 1 yr.
