Same here, happy to support V4 onwards. The Dutch model does seem the right way to go. I wish Fantastical would use that model, very expensive (although off topic - so I'll not mention it).

BinaryNights is changing the business model for Forklift.

"We want to switch to the new model in a few months and release ForkLift 4 in the Spring of 2021. With increasing the version number we want to make a clear distinction between ForkLift 3 and ForkLift 4 to make the transition for our existing users easier to understand."

yep I know - I keep asking since about June last year about beta, and till last week it was a no, nothing yet and its not even close to beta .-(( Spring is not going to happen.

Pathfinder is not only fixing bugs - there is a load of new features

As I said - its a really close call

Well I'm giving PF another go. Any way that the font used can be spaced out a little more height wise, I find the lines are too close together for my eyes.

Yes you can - view Options (i am using german so it might be called slightly different) or visiblity options you Said Text size and Icon size

Pathfinder is reportedly being developed but a lot of that is fixing old bugs that have persisted for a long time. Forklift may not have betas out but it is updated on a regular basis at least v3 is.

I agree. I will say that most of the Forklift updates are largely bug fixes. https://binarynights.com/versionhistory. I don't really consider that a negative; it's great that they are attentive to issues even if the user is not encountering problems because of them.

For my requirements and solely as a Finder replacement, I would say that Path Finder is more powerful and more buggy.

I wish Adobe and Apple would do this... I don't want new features, I want the long-standing bugs fixed.

The dutch model is a nice model, you get what you paid for. I wouldn't say its a dutch model, more like a new release yearly so its like you upgrade yearly like every new iphone or keep using your old phone.

I hate subscription and this is fair for the buyer and the developer. I for one do not see why the developer has to be constantly under the bug fix->add feature process. Back in the day we used the same software with same features. Today the software is alive, its always something new or different.

I honestly so no reason unless the new features highly improve the app usability. I hear a lot about "bug fix" but all the software I used works fine. Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube always update with a "bug fix" weekly" I didn't have a problem before, or a problem after.

I'm using Forklift that people here have recommended.

A couple of things:
Right clicking on JPEGs to view info it doesn't display EXIF data or any extended photo data
Opening a JPEG with Preview which is OK except that I can't navigate to the next photo in the folder.

Is there an alternative to Preview for image files that will allow me to do this with Forklift?

Looks okay, but no trial version alas, and quite expensive..

No trial, and no posted reviews (as of just now), and no clue what the developers have planned, or what their abilities are - all legitimate concerns ... but when PathFinder is charging $36/per device, $13 for 5 units it not particularly expensive...

Path Finder is $36 for 3 devices. But, it is restricted to a single user. When you decide to upgrade Path Finder, if it's more than a year since purchase, then it's $20.

Qspace looks really promising, £/$5 in the app store. Has anyone here tried it and got an opinion on it?

There's now a 14 day trial available, and they've released QSpace Pro - a downloadable version without the irritating limitations of the App Store version - namely, needing to grant permission for each external drive, and the inability to do file operations outside of your home folder.

You can carry over your App Store licence into the new QSpace Pro by using the "bind" function within the app.

Good news indeed. I've downloaded the Pro version but I can't find the 'Bind' function you list to carry the license over.
I muddled through it by trial and error... but it turns out there are instructions!

The 'binding' button is here:

And you can export settings from QS to QSPro using this thing in the Preferences:

What's the deal with having an e-mail account to register the app? Is it just that I don't understand the wording?

I mean it's usual for an application to be bought through some vendor, but it appears that QSpace wants me to have an account somewhere (at Qspace?) to be able to register and buy.

There's an Account button in the first launch window too.

It looks like a wonderful application with small fun things; like a thumbnail view for icons view. Similar to that of Windows which gives a small preview of the contents of the folder.

I haven't heard of losing orders in any sense - I guess it's just me not being fully capable in the head to understand what the actual meaning is. Yet another account to use.

edit : Wait, I think I get the gist of this wording.. one buys through Mac App Store first and then just 'binds' or whatever.. I'm so effing dumb..

Must mean that I'm ready to buy this app with all that it entails when I ask this many questions; manic comments
