There are multiple open-source options which can be used on macOS, starting from KDE (Dolphin) and Gnome (Nautilus) solutions to some more obscure ones.

I have been playing with linux and those seem worse than MacOS Finder. There is no columns view, at least I couldn't find it.

In all honesty I don’t get how you can use an FTP client as a Finder replacement. Yeah, it is technically possible, but why?

P. S. BTW I agree that PathFinder quality deteriorated somewhat, but so did macOS…
All of the "finder replacements" being discussed here are much more than simply an "FTP client".

Not sure where you get the idea that any of the mentioned apps are FTP clients. They have FTP built-in as a feature, but so does macOS itself. Does that make the macOS just an FTP client?

I was specifically referring to ForkLift. Why? Because that has been their self-identification for years. You go to Macupdate now, and the first similar app is Cyberduck.

Forklift’s own description of their app, far from just being an FTP Client.

The most advanced dual pane file manager and file transfer client for macOS.

It's also, simply put, a lie. :D
The publicity about most advanced may well be unjustified, but not that Forklift is intended and is a credible file manager app and Finder replacement. It remains valid that Forklist is not just an FTP Client app, as was claimed. Of course that’s a personal view, but not a lie.

MacUpdate descriptions are not always written by the Developer and more often than not are outdated, and the "similar apps" are posted by a sub-par automated algorithm.

I love MacUpdate for its convenience, but don't put a lot of stock in the accuracy of the description, price, etc. in the listings.

qspace is currently discounted at $14 Forklift has amazing price of $20. I hope its not a quick grab before they shutdown, I am not sure if they have enough users to be sustainable. Even their footnote has not been updated still reading

I guess it's discounted once a year or something. I think I bought it last year, discounted.
Support answers to mails on the same day.
Updates with longe changelogs are coming in regulary, especially if you use the beta version.

Based on that, I think they will stay and continue developing the app.

at $13 is extremely worth it. I only worry about privacy and data collection. Its hard to trust any one these days. Any one knows if the App Store version can manage iCloud files?

Their websites says that version does no manage all files, not sure what that means. Also what is Qspace desktop?

I just finished developing my own alternative after a full rewrite. It looks beautiful and has got some new features so if you are interested you can check out the thread and the website. Feel free to reach out with any questions you might have, however the easiest way to chat with me will always be through the Discord Server.
How Can one do a testride. I Tried them
nearly all. Pathfinder, Forklift, One Commander and Else. Coming from
total Commander I am pretty much spoiled

As stated on our website's pricing page FAQ section, there is currently no option for a free trial.

In lieu of that we offer full refunds with 2 weeks of purchase, all you have to do is reach out to me via email (you can find the support email here) or the Discord Server and request it.

I hope you are able to give Cosmil a try, and thank you for reaching out!

@cosmil although I am currently using Path Finder, your app looks very interesting. Did you already implement a dual pane view? I did not find anything about it in https://docs.cosmil.app/quickstart
If so, could you please post a screenshot?
And secondly, does Cosmil support queue for file transfers? And pause/resume? My server / data storage is purely based on rotating HDDs so this is equally essential to me.
Thanks

On a side note to the missing trial: I have no experience in developing an app, so please excuse my naïvety. But does your licensing approach periodically validate the license via internet? If so, could you not provide a trial serial that gets revoked after 2 weeks? This way the apps' code wouldn't need adjusting but just an added countdown on the server side…

edit:
At the moment 12.0+ but I'm sure I could make some changes to support even older versions if there's demand.
Oops, I am one of those stuck on macOS 11 for the forseeable future. Any updates on that front?
