NeXTStep/OpenStep

I've tinkered with lots of OSes including Plan9 and Amoeba. I'm very partial to NeXTstep/OpenStep. It came with Pixar Renderman and had amazing 3rd-party apps like SolidThinking (whose interface hasn't changed much to this day). All during the time of DOS/Windows 3.x. And developing in Obj-C/Interface Builder at the time was revolutionary.

Lisa, Macintosh, BeOS, OS X 10.9, OS X 10.10

Here I vote for OS X 10.9.

Elsewhere I voted on (against) the user interface of pre-release 10.10.

I rather liked BeOS. …

More praise for BeOS: https://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?p=19489032#post19489032

Off-topic from the best GUI, a little history …

A 2009 article – ignore the code: On Tabs and Docking and Title Bars (highlights) – observed a resemblance between the style of title bars in BeOS and an Apple style that predated the Mac.
