Yeah it was pretty clever but pretty clever also usually means needs to be maintained :(

Hey ho onwards and upwards as they say.

I'm still evaluating what programs I can do without before going to Lion. Appleworks for example was an incredibly good program. I'm slowly changing my files over to Pages, but in some significant ways Appleworks was better- better outline format, better views...

Every Mac (that is able to) at Feral dual boots Snow and Lion. I used to have my main account in Snow and use Lion where needed, I now have Lion as my main app and use Snow when needed :)

Good luck with the evaluation.

The best OS for gaming is Windows 7. Just install BootCamp and go at it.

That is irrelevant to the thread really. I am sure you have a point but the thread is about Mac gaming and what OS is better not about using bootcamp.

I do NOT want to run Windows and I do NOT want to pay USD 200 for a license to use that POS system.

In fact, as I've requested before, the whole gaming forum should deal ONLY with Mac OS games.

I am tired of opening threads that refer to games on Windows/Boot Camp/Virtualization just because they allegedly "run better" (when this is NOT always the case). If I wanted Windows, I would have bought an effing PC.

So can we stick to REAL Mac OS games, please? Thank you.

None of the OP's bullet points said he wasn't open to this idea, so I figured I'd throw it out there. Sheesh...

Use Lion for gaming, it's a faster OS than 10.6 (as long as whatever game is compatible).

I disagree. I'd say that over 50% of the discussions in this forum are coming from Mac people regarding PC games. It is helpful for many of us. My suggestion to MRs would be to allow a drop down Title Prefix selection of Mac, PC, or Cross Platform so the purists of the group can avoid those discussions they have no interest in, without having to read the first post in a thread.

The title of the thread is what "Best Mac OS for Gaming 10.6.8 or 10.7.x?" I think that was clear enough :) Too many people just see a thread and post "Use Windows 7 it's the only (or best) choice".

I am not against people suggesting Bootcamp for some users it's a great solution however to many Mac gaming threads are derailed by someone throwing in the "Use Windows" argument when it is not really relevant.

I did not mean to seem harsh in any way but all his questions are about Snow Leopard and Lion, the topic name was again about the difference between to Mac OS's so the Windows answer just derailed the thread's main point, talking about what Mac OS is better for gaming.

I see you did not mean to be derailed the thread but recently to many interesting threads have been knocked off topic by people not reading the thread and using the cheap "Use Windows" or in some cases "Use OS X this is a Mac forum" comments.

Why can't we all get along and only post when we have read the entire thread and have something constructive to add? :)

This is actually what I had requested in case my original proposal was too radical; the admins seemed to have none of it, though...point is: I simply CAN'T stand visiting a gaming thread thinking that it is about a new Mac OS game, just to see it hijacked by Windows users (whether they use Macs or not).

We already have a lot of Mac OS-native games (i.e., no virtualization, Wine or Boot Camp necessary); if I wanted to know about the latest Windows game I would be checking Windows SuperSite.

Myth II works perfectly under Lion, just need to download the latest patch. Lion is the better system as long as you don't play alot of old PPC games. And we are already seeing games starting to take advantage of Lions upgraded OpenGL drivers (Rage).

Glad to hear that Myth II still works.

I've been reluctant to upgrade to Lion because of all the negative comments I've heard about it. It seems like a lot was broken in 10.7. I'm not happy about the monochromatic Finder sidebar, but I figure I've got to stay up to date.

I'm going to install Lion on an external drive and test it out, particularly the mouse acceleration. If I can disable mouse acceleration with SteerMouse, then I'll most likely upgrade from 10.6 on my MBPro. I can't play QuakeLive with mouse acceleration enabled. And I still have a Mac Mini running Snow Leopard server if I need PPC-compatibility for any apps.
