Best monitor for our MINI? Please share your choice.

Lots of random comments but no tread I could find for just what is the best monitor for your Mini, at least not a current thread. So if you could be so kind to share your views on which monitor is best.
My concern is I have a HP2207 8 year old monitor. I would like a larger screen but I thing 27 may be too much. So I was thinking 24in would be the perfect match. Is my thinking correct, or will I want a bigger screen once I get it. So maybe I should just give in and get the Apple 27. Your thoughts?

Just check the Dell's. They are better than Apple's offerings when it comes to display quality, ergonomics, warranty, lifespan, yet way cheaper. Dell's usually utilise the same display panel, but with matte finish, precise sRGB or AdobeRGB gamuts (not quasi RGB like on pre 2012 Apple LED panels), video refresh rates etc.
U2413 or U2713HM are 2 to check!
The 27 inch also offers movie playback rates, so if you want to use it as media machine too....
 
The Apple is overpriced. You can find comparable/better 27" monitors for $700. You can get a great 24" brand name monitor for $300 or less. Shop around and research the models.

U2713H and U2913WM here, no complaints.
 
I have a Dell UltraSharp U2412M and thought it was a good choice because of the price (like a Mac mini!). It's an IPS monitor but I wouldn't call it in the upper tier, though. Whatever you get, I certainly recommend you get something other than a 1080P monitor. If you want to do any photo work, you'll find a 1080 pixel height to be less than ideal. Get at least 1200.

Look at this great review of the Viewsonic VP2770 from Menacing Tuba on Youtube. I will get this when the new Haswell Mac Mini is released hopefully in Oct.

I stand by the Apple Thunderbolt Displays. Well worth the investments. Resell value should be good to for future upgrades. Look at the prices for the Apple 24" monitors.

No ACD or Samsung?

I'm surprised there are not more Apple Cinema Display posts. I am interested in the ACD cause it looks great. I was hoping there would be a comment on the Samsung this is a beautiful monitor, thin and a nice clear base stand. Funny how you can argue with yourself on which tech gear you want.

Ew, Dell. You people need to learn about how thick their antiglare coating is. Put a dell up next to an apple monitor in a dark room and you will notice how unnatural the dell looks FAST.

The only way I would suggest a dell is if you are in a bright room all the time.

Either an Apple monitor, or a cheap korean monitor on ebay (I have two).

My Dell is matte.

The ACDs are great displays, it's just tough to justify spending that much on a display when there's a lot of very good much cheaper options.

I recently got a 23" AOC i2367 for my Mini, it looks great and fits the Mac aesthetic really well (and was really cheap). The only negative is that the base isn't the most stable, when I bump my desk it tends to wobble a bit.

I have a 24" ACD on my 2009 Mini and it is (still) a very good monitor and a great size. I've used a 21" and 27" iMac both for work. The 27" is really what you want for video editing, but it is a huge display. Whereas the 21" just seems too small to fit multiple windows on. So, for me, the 24" is just right. I'm looking to get a second monitor when I upgrade my Mini this fall, but I have no idea where to find good, refurb 24" ACD's. That's my first choice, by far, even though I could get pretty much anything I wanted. I would note, the ACD's are not known for their terrific color accuracy and consistency. So if you do graphic design where color accuracy is critical, the older 24" units are probably not for you. I don't do that, and don't particularly care about a slightly discolored, whitish blotch here or there, that 99.9% of the time you never notice.

But regardless of what brand you go with, heed others' advice above, don't get JUST a 1080p display, unless that's all you can afford, or you're down at 19". Anything bigger than 20" and IMO you need 1200 pixels or better.

I'd actually strongly disagree with that, 23" is the sweet spot for 1080p IMO.

I wouldn't recommend one of the low cost 27" displays at 1080p, but the 23-24" ones are a great value for a lot of people.
 
I have a Dell S2340M, and like it.

It's a 23" 1080p IPS display with a quality panel, and was on sale for $169 at Bestbuy. :)

They have the Dell S2440L currently for $189, which is an excellent bargain IMO.
 
Great informative post, I wish you all would have posted pictures of your displays. Im in the marker for a display also and I am looking at 24 as my sweet spot. Can you tell me if the 24s max out at 1920 x 1080 like the Dell S2440L 24 (bestBuy)or is there a higher one?
