I'm looking to buy a new racing game. I have asphalt but I want another one. What are some that would be good buys?

Need for Speed undercover. I got it last week and I am having a blast.

I have that in my favorites of pandorabox so I'm seriously considering getting it.

Has anyone tried real racing? I'm wondering if it's worth $10.

Need For Speed Undercover is an on the tracks game. Best Arcade Racer according to most I think. Real Racing is superb! Most Realistic Racer I'd say.

Real Racing is the shiznit. It's really challenging and the AI is pretty top notch. Throw on a pair of headphones for some amazing sound effects too.

Fast and Furious is great for $1.99. Hard to go wrong for that price, but I'll probably get Real Racing as well.

I too have been looking for one good racing game to buy, but to be honest never have really owned or bought any. When you say 'on the tracks game' do you mean steering that is very controlled? Such as poor or lack of response or control?

As a beginner who gets easily frustrated with the accelerometer controls of my iPhone (from testing a few of the free edition racing games), is Real Racing too difficult to get a hang of? The graphics from the game look second to none for the iPhone platform but if is out of my league, I won't spend that much in it right now.

I have tried both the games and would suggest you getting NFS for the time being, and wait for a price drop for RR. The controls for NFS are really easy to get hold of. I can drive in a single line on a long curve without much trouble. So yes the controls are on rails but the game is an arcade racer geared more towards entertainment values(where it scores 10/10) and less towards a driving sim(5/10). If spending 7$ for a game is no big deal for you then be rest assured, you`d be getting a lot for your $ here.

RR will be a little difficult to navigate and will need a lot of practice from your side. But then it`ll be a lot more satisfying experience once you get used to the game, than the easier NFS.

Asphalt4:eek:. Please no one even waste a single penny on that game now that we have stuff like NFS,RR, FastLane, Fast n Furious in app store.

@candyman - on the rails means the game won't let you hit walls or other stuff, but you've still got to steer somwhat well to win the race.

Real Racing isn't that difficult, it isn't on the tracks, but with a little patience and persistence, you should get the hang of it.

The one racing game with a lite version that might be super challenging is Fastlane, and that remains the most challenging racer I've tried yet. I haven't got past the third race on hard level yet, and the second level I did somehow by fluke (I usually always come in second).

Real Racing and it isn't even close. It is not only the best racing game but the best game overall IMO.

just got Real Racing and it is awesome!

First game i've ever actually been "into" and addicted to on the iPhone.

the AI is too aggressive, though. Thats not very realistic.

I have yet to play Real Racing but I played NFSU and it is really good; I keep replaying it to buy all the cars and to upgrade everything and max it out. So it is definitely worth the price and has kept me playing for a month.

How is the car selection? Would you rate it above GT4?

Depends really on whether you want an arcade experience (for which NFSU is the best choice) or a "proper" racing game, in which case, Real Racing is the way to go.

Those two are (currently) the daddies...

Ditto. It was fun to play for a few weeks (I just snatched the odd few minutes ever so often). Once you get through all the races and get all the cars, the game quickly becomes worthless.

Don't expect a "free ride" option - you either do the races it serves up or nothing.

REALRACING all the way - check out the new update they just approved 1.10!! 10 more cars v12 engines or something like that and itunes music in app, more races in career mode now has 6 player wifi support!!!!

I beat Need for Speed in 2 days of semi casual play it was fun but then I realized I was on a track and it would turn partially for me! At first I thought that was cool cause it make the game race-able but then when I beat the whole game so fast I was like ok were is the wifi play, (doesn't have it)! Don't get me wrong it was a good purchase but then Real Racing came out and I convinced myself to get it since it had wifi play and I could race my wife and friends and it is a great game - you do need to tune the controls to get use to it at first but after racing like 3 or 4 on the controls you like you can start winning!!

Hmm, I am not sure if I should wait for GT PSP or get this game (real racing). I am drwan to the tuning and the crazy physics (love the drifting) that is had in GT (well and forza). How much tuning can you do in realracing?

I find the tuning to be more than my needs!

-Steering type - I think there are 5 to be exact
-Brake Assist Slider
-Accelerometer Slider
-Horizontal tilt (not sure what this is but hopefully someone can help us)

NEW UPDATE AS OF 7-17-09

I was looking more for, downforce, tire type, gearing (final drive etc), turbo adjustment. Buying parts, collecting cars. Does it have a license mode to help improve driving skill? That kind of thing. Basically I am looking for Gran Turismo but on the iPhone. Are the 45 cars open from the start or do you have to buy/unlock them? Can you do random stuff like drifting?

OK.
Parts no
Cars are Locked and you have to play career mode to unlock them.
Has a quick race mode but not sure about license mode - not sure what that is.
If you want Gran Turismo I would just play it on the Xbox since the graphics will be way better along with the controls and such but I belive this is the closest for the iPhone. To tell you the truth I do not like Gran Turnismo since it is a bit too hard to steer, as for Real Racing I wasn't going to get it since I don't enjoy the Racing sims that much but with all the steering controls I enjoy it!
No Boost - that seems more like an arcade style game - NFS
Drifting - well you can turn sharp and if you steer right it will semi-drift, but not like NFS - thought I think the NFS drifting is kinda unreal! Actually NFS has a drifting challenge once you beat all game it unlocks a few drifting challenges, but once those are beat there is no reason to play the game since there is no wifi or multiplayer mode, I guess you can keep playing to buy the better cars but then you already beat everything with a worse car so it would be like super easy to win. in no way do I dislike NFS, since it is cheaper now I say go for it but I don't play it any more and I play Real Racing all the time!

If you want I could make a video to show you any of the features yo may want to see or just youtube it!
