Crumbler The Gimp 13

http://marryyourbag.com/?product=The_13''_Gimp&page=details&product_line=597

You can leave your MBA inside the sleeve and still use it...when ur done...zip it and go!

i'm a big fan of crumpler - I have the "gimp" case for my mbp and its great. The only reason i'm not considering them for a mba is that they don't make a case specifically for it. Is this stupid of me?! The case you've linked to is for the mb so i imagine the mba may not fit perfectly. If they make a mba specific case i'd be all over it.

Tucano sleeves hit NYC!

Hey, folks, I just saw the Tucano "Second Skin" sleeves at a Flax store in NYC. They had ALL THREE colors--grey, black, and red. I think price was $29.95 USD.

These are similar to the Tucano sleeves for the MBP 15" and 17" with two important exceptions.

The colors are not solid all the way around. The edge is "ribbed" with a slightly different color of the material.

The inside of the sleeve has a "lip" on one side. This lets you ensure that the laptop is "seated" inside the lip when it's in the sleeve so that it doesn't accidentally fall out if you unzip the sleeve when it's upside down, or accidentally turn it upside down with the zipper unzipped. This is an ingenious feature, and frankly I'm surprised it's not being promoted more.

These second skin cases on some third-party vendor sites show the product with a "MacBook Air" logo branding on one side, but the units I saw in the store today I don't recall seeing any such text; in fact, they said nothing about it being MacBook Air specific or compatible. They are, I believe, the same Second Skin product anyway, as far as I can tell. The screen dimension was very specifically stated as 13.2 or .3 or .1. They looked just like they do on the Tucano English website, listed under Second Skin Elements 13.3. My only concern is that they may be for the MacBook 13" and too big for the Air.

On their website they list the "9 Dot Second Skin for 13" Widescreen" and the "Second Skin Elements 13.3" for the MacBook". Not sure exactly which I saw today--I'll check again tomorrow.

They both list the same external measurements: 35.7x24.3x2.59cm. The 9 dots one on the website has a little box with 9 dots at the base on the outside. The Elements sleeve on the website has a big box in the middle with "MB 13,3".

I just ordered this sleeve. It should arrive the same time as my MBA.

http://www.pivotgear.com/products/sleeves/booq/vyper-xs-ballistic-nylon-black
Are you sure that thing's going to fit your MBA? That's not the sleeve that Booq recommend for the MBA on their own web site... they recommend the XS2, which is designed for the 13" MacBook, not the sleeve for the 12" iBook. I think your MBA is going to be doing some serious rattling around inside the case you ordered.

Anyway, the new Vaja cases for the MBA are now available to order, so they pretty much take over the position of best sleeve available.

Orion Sleeve by Incipio... now available in Black...

http://www.myincipio.com/product/IM-ORION/ORION_Sleeve_for_Apple_MacBook_Air.html

The Orion Sleeve from Incipio seems to be back available (from their website)...

I really like the style (2nd best would be the vaja) and the fact that it is simple enough to be then but in a bag (my intent).

What do people think about it ? Protective enough ? Is the fact that it is open on the top a problem ?

Views from people who have actually bought and received it would be great...

Thanks,

w.

If all you're going to do is slip it into a bag then this should work for you. With the opening on the top you won't even have to take the sleeve out of your bag to take your MBA out. One consideration though is what else will be in your bag. The padding on this isn't the thickest but if all you're going to carry with you are a book or two and a note pad then this should be enough protection.

Terwal, my personal feeling about sleeves is that no part of the machine inside should be exposed. A complete enclosure, like the Vaja or Booq Vyper solutions, is better if you happen to be carrying the sleeve outside of a bag and it starts raining or something.

Don't get me wrong; it's great if 98% of the surface of the machine is protected from scratches. But if the remaining 2% is exposed to scratches and could allow liquids to get to the machine, I don't consider that optimal.

Can you take a few more pictures of it, i wanted to see how protective and small it is. I was thinking of getting a brenthaven sleeve because they have the zero impact system, but wasn't sure. I want a protective sleeve that doesn't add a ton of bulk. So most bang for your buck. Any suggestions?

Thanks.

I ordered this and man, i just opened it and WOW, quality is pretty awesome fast shipping. The same day i ordered late in the afternoon, they shipped it out. Talk about great customer service, i called and they helped answer some questions i had. This my first (http://www.sfbags.com) Waterfield purchase and i'm hooked. This was a test purchase to see quality of the bag, and it sure is high end, if the sleeves are high in quality, imagine what the other bags are like.

I have attached a bunch of angles for those who want to see it. Hope the resolution is okay.

Alright... you guys who spend $1799+ (and tas and shipping) on your beautuful Macbook Air, cant go cheap now. you're going to cry the moment you accidentally scratch it from either usage, or putting it in thw table and whatnot.

Stop being cheap and get this:
http://www.invisibleshield.com/laptop/apple/macbook-air.php

If you still want to get another sleeve go ahead, but you dont need one after this. I got my laptops ipod, DS, psp, iphone protected by this, it works awesome. The thing as a lifetime warranty, and watch the darn video. It's near impenetratable! transport your macbook air in your laptop bag/case... but when you're taking it out and using it, you wont fear it getting scratch during normal usage.

This does not your laptop case for transportation. But it works better than any sleeve you can ever buy in terms of scratch protection. It's worth the $50 for the all body protection.

Is it not deadly to put that Invisibleshield stuff on? You have to set it in place perfectly at the first attempt or it gets messed up! Mayb that was just me tho!

Wrappers Sleeve

Just got MBA sleeve from Wrappers in U.K. I went for Alcantara in metal grey color.

This sleeve exceeded all my expectations - nice and tight fit.. the fabric has this smooth and "expensive" feel to it.. and the color is a perfect match for MBA. Highly recommend!

I have really poor hand to eye coordination. And I bought and installed, myself! the invisible shield.

I never put these things on correctly.

But invisibleShield, has a secret. It's the liquid spray that is included in the package. You spray the sticky side of the film. That allows you to move the film around to align it properly until the liquid dries. If you need to, you can respray the film until it sticks.

A squeegee is also included to squeeze out the bubbles and remaining liquid.

InvisibleShield also says that remaining micro bubbles will remove themselves, and they do.

Than the MBA goes into it's Waterfield sleeve, perfect protection in my opinion.

I tried to order a Vaja Classic Bag, but there doesn't seem to be any way to purchase it on their site. It has a Shopping Bag but no way to get your stuff into that bag and buy it. Very poor user experience for purchasing.

Their feedback form doesn't work either.

I finally found an email address so we'll see how long it takes them to respond.

+1 on the Incase neoprene sleeve. Nice tight fit, easy on and off, enough padding to protect, super-nice fuzzy interior (more like stuffed animal fur than fleece), and it doesn't add much to the bulk of the computer.

I also ordered the Manila Mac, and never use it - it doesn't fit tightly, the computer slides around, and the padding doesn't feel thick.

I highly recommend the Incase - look professional, solid, and works well in my backpack.

I have Crumpler's The Le Royal leather sleeve for 13" macbooks, and it is (almost) perfect for my Air (just a couple of nanometers too large). Expensive, yes, but incredible quality, and very good looking.

Press on the "Custom" link and it will bring you to a popup screen where you can select your colors and customization (if you want something besides the default), as well as put the item into your shopping bag.

This is the same sleeve that I have... You CANNOT beat them as far as price to quality is concerned. I would buy another in a minute!

Exactly, I have the same one and couldn't argue that it's the best one available. In addition, I use my recently received Civilian Lab one as well.

To compliment everything, ordered a shoulder bag from SF bags as well and protects everything and very roomy.

I've used these for several years starting with my PB12, then my MB-Pro 17, and now my MBA (when it arrives). I don't think any sleeve provides as much protection. They already have the MBA version available and mine shipped last week.

I love the zeroshock. it protects your laptop so good. i have been looking for this online but couldnt find any. Too bad the black is out of stock, or else i would buy one too.

based upon previous macbook models, can anyone compare Shinza Zeroshock vs Sfbags waterfield sleeve?
