IPP looks nice but is the magnet keyboard non bluetooth? I know tablets are better than Chromebooks. Any love for the Chromebooks with touchscreen out there?

But Windows 10. I was interested in the Surface but was told 1. updates a lot 2. freezes sometimes.

Maybe Chromebook is ok? ARM is weak but can it do the trick in 2016?

I have an IPP 9.7. It's fantastic. I use this keyboard with it, which would seem to check all your boxes:

Keyboard is fantastic to type on. Apple Pencil is a bit heavier than I prefer but it's pretty spot on for writing and drawing.

Owned a MS Surface Pro 4. Pass. Concept is awesome but my own experience was terrible. Frequent freezes and crashes. Honestly though it probably works better as a laptop than a tablet anyway.

This was my second biggest problem with Surface. As a tablet, you have very limited options for apps. Same old story with any non-iOS tablet, I guess. Maybe it's increasing popularity will draw more devs to it.

Too lazy to look if anyone else said it, but it bears saying. There is no one best tablet for every use. Some tablets and some aspect ratio are better for some tasks.

The relative paucity of touch apps on the Surface line limits its appeal from a tablet POV.

Android does touch apps almost as good as IOS, and both of them (Windows and Andoid) have very accessible file systems which make them a joy to use compared to Apples way of doing things.

Apple with iOS does everything right in all things tablet, but because they never focused on all other input methods beyond touch (in its broadest sense), now finds itself hamstrung to a degree.

3D Touch extends the touch functionality, but until mouse support is added (and I believe there is a way to do that w/o impacting the tablet's modus operandi), it will be difficult to extend the iPad beyond what you can currently.

There are poor Android apps as well as some good ones. For touch support, both android and iOS, run rings around Windows. And the quality of Android apps isn't the central topic here anyway.

I would be open to Windows on a tablet. But the app choices, from a touch perspective, are a joke.

A lot of rough edges to the Android version. Would definitely tell you to wait till v2 before trying out.

Something that is longer and more narrow gets awkward to hold for prolonged periods in portrait mode. That being said, 16:9 is better for watching movies and TV shows.

I doubt most people have a clue what ratio their tablet is. I had no idea what my iPad was until I just looked it up. It's the best tablet though so that probably counts more than anything else.

I started my "Tablet-career" with an Android (Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1). It hasn't received any official OS updates for years. Now it sits in the drawer.
Now using, though rarely an iPAD.
