Recent jailbreaker of iPhone 5 and looking to get the best tethering solution available. This is really the only reason I jailbroke so far. Sometimes I gotta work from home or stuck at airport and would like to use my LTE unlimited data plan to create a WIFI hot spot. Took a quick look and saw TetherMe, MyWi, and PDANet. TetherMe looks like the cheapest solution at $5 and looks like it does exactly what I need it to do. Any complaints? Should I look at MyWi instead?

From what it sounds like, there is no way to "hide" my tethering from Verizon? I'll probably use it 3-4 times a month if that. :cool:
Best solution (I used it for years) is using the CommCenter patch to unlock native personal hotspot. Add to your Cydia source list:

Once its installed, reboot and edit your carrier's plist file to enable tethering. Works flawlessly. Never once was I questioned by my carrier and I used a LOT of data.

;)

Wait a minute. This is revolutionary. You mean MR is not THE authoritative source for all information? Why, this could mean people with;
  • ATT questions would go to the ATT web site
  • BiteSMS questions going to the BiteSMS web site
  • Verizon questions going to the Verizon site
  • The three people with TMobile going to the TMobile web site.
etc. :D

Anyone have experience with TetherME and Sprint? Do many people get caught on Sprint? Thanks

TetherMe works the same regardless of carrier. However, everyone who has used it on Sprint and TetherMe has been caught and their phone confiscated.

No one knows if anyone on Sprint has been caught. Use TetherMe and quit worrying.

Sometimes it seems like I'm the only person on here with Verizon :cool:

I have verizon as well with an unlimited data plan and use TetherMe on my jail broken iPhone 5 running 6.1.2 and have had absolutely no problems at all. it would be foolish for me to assume that it's the right choice for everyone but I will say that I don't use tethering too often not at all because I'm afraid to rather because I don't have a need for it very often. I have wifi at work and at home I pay for wifi cause my Gf is a computer addict. Sure I could save some money and let her tether off of me but that would only work out if I were at home which I rarely am. I travel once a month for work and the cheap bastards put me in hotels that usually have crappy wifi and that is when my verizon hot spot is golden especially for streaming Netflix onto my pc with a 13 inch screen that is a lot better for my eyes than watching a movie on my iPhone:)

If you have Verizon then don't worry about hiding anything. First of all, there is no way of hiding the fact that you tether from your carrier. With Verizon, due to the FCC ruling, they cannot charge you extra for using a third party tethering solution.

I personally use mywi and have not had any issues.

...technically that FCC rule only applies to users who are on a share everything plan with tiered data and does NOT apply to users that are on an old nationwide plan with grandfathered unlmtd data. does vzw actually enforce that rule? Only time will tell and your guess is as good as mine.

The AT&T family share plans also include tethering (but doesn't really make sense until you have at least 4 smart phones on your plan). My family has the 6GB plan and I use the tethering to give my (wifi only) iPad internet access.
