Kind of a random question - do you guys/gals use these VPNs all the time ? or just when you're doing something sensitive or when you're on public wifi?

I imagine doing data intensive stuff will cause the VPN provider to suffer but leaving it on all the time for normal web browsing/surfing shouldn't be entirely harmful - maybe a few percentages more of battery usage on a Mac/iPhone?

I've used Vypr and everything appears to work fine.

Definitely like the "security" of using open wifi but at $60/year it's kinda a tough swallow if I'm not going to use it every day (maybe I should except for data intensive times?).

I don’t use the VPN all the time just because a lot of the streaming sites block it. I use PIA vpn and love it when it works. It works great for me on single user for torrents and browsing. Love it. When I recently switched to my kids and wife have user accounts on my iMac now somehow when having multiple people logged in, and I log off and on my account PIA doesn’t reload. If I try to open it nothing happens. It worked perfectly for me when we all used just one login on Mac. But it has been terrible multi user. Works great on iPhones and iPads. I travel a lot. Unfortunately at hotels I have to have vpn off, get in to the login page, then turn vpn on. But before I can get vpn on it pops up with my new emails and texts. Sure it is only a couple seconds but that feels weird. My phone streams music better on vpn, but can’t watch Netflix with it on.
