That’s great news. Of course it doesn’t fix the issue people will have when traveling and can’t insert a local SIM.

exactly.... I really "dislike" Apple for pulling a stupid stunt like this. I am getting the Canadian version of iPhone 14 Pro Max just so I can have it with the SIM slot. It's okay with me because I'm travelling to Canada soon anyway... but still....

Just activate a Google Fi eSIM and use that for international. Pause or deactivate as you need it. Plenty of other eSIM services (e.g. GigSky) that let you load an eSIM on demand for any country you're looking to visit. I haven't had to buy a local SIM in a very long time.

If you visit another country you just hop on the hotel / hostel / coffee shop wifi and then do all that? And use your US credit card for it vs just currency in cash at a store? Or some other way?

Do you find it convenient vs the sim way? Indifferent?

Google Fi is an MVNO of T-Mobile. Just set it up before you fly out, and when I fly to another country, I just switch the data to Google Fi the day I'm flying out. It will work in the USA just fine as well as a primary carrier as well.

I travel internationally frequently. I just keep both eSIMs running and all I do is toggle which data plan I plan to use on the phone.

200 destinations supported on Google Fi... $20 for the base service, $10/GB based on what you use, pause service as needed: https://fi.google.com/about/international-rates/

Many folks use it as a primary service. I use Verizon as my primary service, and keep the Google Fi SIM active all the time as a 2nd line. I never think about where I'm going to get my data from. As soon as the plane lands, I turn off airplane mode and I'm online.

What are the best options for people like me who live in the USA and want a physical SIM for carriers like Verizon prepaid and traveling?

Drive across the border into Canada or Mexico? It looks like you might be able to order online for in-store pickup.

Another interesting thing I noticed is that Guam and the US Virgin Islands get the same iPhones as Canada and Mexico. Except Apple doesn't have a store there. On their website it says, "We are happy to ship your order to a friend or family member residing within the 50 United States if your billing address is within one of" [those territories]. So does that mean if you get a billing address in Guam or the US Virgin Islands Apple will ship you the physical SIM iPhone to your address in the US?

iPhone models by country:
Does anyone know if there’s import tax or duties for forwarding it from Canada to USA ?

I’m ported my number to a USA mvno which allows for roaming as I’d need the number for 2FA and don’t want to lose it. Ported it to Ultra Mobile with a $5 international roaming which was included. Currently using a local O2 esim on my 14 PM for data and voice so all good. Still have $4.35 credit left on my USA line. Research being disconnected from USA carriers when roaming for long periods of time. You’ll be surprised. T-Mobile and Google FI are top hits on Reddit for this.

Me neither! But I was thinking, at least for me it may help my phone addiction out. Switching will be a PITA and I won’t be inclined to do it. Could be a saving grace scenario here
This is one of the reasons I kept my XS for so long. Have a foreign esim on my phone that would require me to travel overseas to transfer the line to any new phone I purchase. I could only imagine the difficult logistics of transferring if both of my numbers were on esim.
