Simple, my GF has an Android Tablet (TAB A)
And is getting a 6s tomrorow probably
What's the best way to make sure both work together?
That depends on how she plans to use them. I also have an Android tablet and iPhone. Plus a Mac.
I use Contacts Sync to keep my Mac/iCloud & Gmail contacts...in sync. I use Spotify for music. I use Plex to sync videos, but less necessary now that Netflix allows downloads. I use the Android tablet mostly to consume media. Dropbox & Drive are cross platform as are many other apps.
So, it's easy to make iOS & Android work together but it really depends on how she plans to use each device.
Don't use android, crap.
iPhone + Ipad = GREATNESS!!
Google Drive has some special backup abilities for things like contacts, calendars, etc. when it comes to iOS (so that they could be quickly restored from it on another iOS or Android device)?google drive actually does a really god job at backing up everything on an iPhone: contact, photos, videos, calendars, etc. You could then restore that information on a tablet.
I have been the other way around for 4 years now: iPad and have a Android phone. Use a google/gmail account for calendar/contacts and notes works very well. I use the built in Contacts and Calendars iOS apps syncing to my two Google accounts just fine.
I prefer Google Inbox for my email, having the app on my phone and iPad takes care of continuity there, using the Gmail native iOS app also works if she uses the gmail app on the tablet. You can of course use the built-in Mail app on iOS and everything will sync fine via IMAP, but I find most people used to Android prefer the Gmail app anyway.
Google Photos is a great alternative for iCloud Photos and works well.
Google Drive or Dropbox are both pretty analogous with iCloud Drive too.
For backup of the iOS device, just use iCloud backup.
Yup it is nice that I can have google now, siri and cortana on my phone. The good thing about google services is that it plays nicely with IOS devices and often times the IOS apps are better. Trying to use apple service on Android is a nightmare though, which is probably what apple wants.

In my testing google now is better overall.
I've been doing something similar for around 4years, my tablets are iPads and my smartphones are Galaxy.Simple, my GF has an Android Tablet (TAB A)

Lol, brilliant response. Care to enlighten us why? The s7 edge seems to help winning device of the year awards, wonder why that is...Don't use android, crap.

Let me guess you have never ever used an android device. , and in your mind they are akin to an old Nokia lol
I think it was the denial of the year awards 2016Device of the year awards?
Who presented them those awards? Samsung?

I'll give you an easy one to start with, the webs biggest tech awards T3. They voted a certain s7 as handset of the year, shall I go on....Nice, with red carpet and everything huh?
That's some great awards right there.

Siri is probably the worst of all of the virtual assistants: google now, Alexa, and even Cortana are better IMO. Siri is even worse with car play if you can image that. Half the time I get the response, "I cannot do that why you are driving".....isn't that the point haha.
It depends how much merit you place into such a website. So for some, if site XYZ reports something, that means a lot to them. Also, as far as the iPhone forum comment, I've been trying to find an equivalent Android forum to join for awhile now, but I have yet to find one that is as good as MR. The majority of them are so cluttered or convoluted, plus the Alternatives forum on this site has good information. And that means absolutely nothing what a website voted or what award was bought by Samsung.
If android was that great you obviously wouldn't be frequenting an iPhone forum right?
