I can’t get the system back via Recovery Mode/Reinstall macOS. That only gets me back to the progress bar at 100% (I tried that).

So, what if I boot from a thumbdrive with High Sierra beta 4, can I reinstall macOS from that, i.e. on top of the current beta 4 / beta 5 installation, without loosing all?

Not a bad idea.. give it a shot and let us know lol

Macbook Pro, late 2013: No Problems installing this beta. I already had the internal (original) SSD converted to the new filesystem during the first beta.

Why not copy the thumb drive over as an image? Boot to the thump drive, download CCC and install. Then copy the thumb image to the hard drive. Boot up.

Hi LarryJoe33, I am not sure what you mean? Copy the thumb drive over to what? Download CCC why? Perhaps I am just not seeing the light:)

Ok, I assume you have you have a full install of HS Beta 4 on your thumb drive. If I am right, boot to the thumb drive by holding down option. From there, download Carbon Copy Clone and install it. Launch it. Select your thumb drive as your source and select your hard drive as the target. Press Clone. When complete, restart (without holding down option) and your system should boot from the hard drive and be the same as what was on the thumb. Make sense?

OK, now it makes sense:)

I only have the installation IMG turned into an installation USB on the thumb drive, so will have to make a few tweaks and twerks...

So it looks like I can't backup my SSD (which has been converted to AFPS) to an external hard drive in recovery mode... wtf

edit* Gonna try and reinstall Beta 1 via bootable hard drive

Hey, I just tried to restore an APFS image that CCC created back to my hard drive and CCC told me it will not be bootable as it is not supported yet by CCC? Argh. Hope I didn't give you **** advice. It's an APFS thing and CCC for sure.

Yea I’m at the Genius Bar rn, and they can’t even read the drive. I’m screwed lol. Luckily I had my Documents folder backed up to iCloud so my school and work files are backed up. But my iTunes library and movies are wiped, along with all my apps :(

That sucks. Try iTunes Match, it uploads your library to iCloud ..$25 a year and so worth it.

The legendary Apple quality control.

There are people in the news forum stating macOS is the greatest thing ever and these update and install issues never happen.

From my perspective, you seem to go around looking for threads where folks have issues, then you come in with a negative post. Never a solution, just pessimism. You must really HATE Apple! Why spend your time here?

I actually used this program called Senuti and it worked flawlessly! Computer is back up and running and thanks to Fios gigabit wifi... mostly everything is back to normal lol. And the computer runs faster. Now I gotta set up my Bootcamp partition again lol..

I believe Mike Bombich (of CCC) put out a notice that CCC can't yet create a restorable clone of an APFS boot volume.

The ability to do that will require some work on CCC's part, and won't be available for a while yet.

I see no benefit from using APFS right now.
It's just not worth fooling with... yet (at the end-user level).

I've installed the various betas of High Sierra onto an OLD firewire800 hard drive using the old HFS+, and it runs well enough (considering the age of the drive and the connection scheme). Running developer preview #5 currently.

Details pls.. How did you install ‘Senuti’ if the computer wasn’t booting into the desktop ? What did the Genuis do, as far as helping with Beta ?

I’m on APFS since B1

I can’t even boot in to Safe Mode (stuck at apple logo, with the progress bar at 80% and ain’t moving any further)

Couldn’t install HS B5 (had it scheduled to auto install at night) and keeps telling me about the installer missing or damaged and to restart, which fails again :(

Apple should (when released) have a fail-safe automatic way to get back on track with these failed installs. It really is inexcusable that they wouldn't and send users scrambling for fixes. It's disheartening.

They fully wiped my drive, and installed Sierra on it.

That sucks..

I was able to re-install HS w/o wiping the data.. What a relief!!

It's Beta, so I can't really blame Apple for this.. Plus, as long as there's a redundant backup, it's not such a huge issue..
