stop crying. it wasn't an "alarmist" post. it was me trying to warn people before updating. i just posted what happened and gave people an idea of what could happen.

sure some won't lose data.......but some may.

get off your preachers box buddy.

Well, I certainly appreciated the warning :)

Exactly my point.

If it was a warning then use different words instead of "update and it will erase all of your data."

Some people take these forums to be gospel and misinformation can spread like wild fire and then rumor becomes fact.

I like SplashID and I think the company has been really good stewards of their products. I would rather have their resources go towards developing more iPhone related apps instead of battling bad PR on a public forum.

Let's see how that desire to issue a warning to caution others that there could be issues compares to the language you actually used in your original post:

If I intended to issue a caution about updating of the kind you said you intended, I might have said something like this instead:

To me at least that sounds more like what you said you intended. Your original post sounded to me like a blanket statement that updating would delete your data. As we see from the rest of the thread, that hasn't been everyone's experience.

I know I said I'd go back to lurking. But it really does matter how you say what you say, if you want to convey your intention accurately. I'm done now.

For all those blasting the OP for being an alarmist, etc...
He may have saved someone great frustration.

There are many reviews in Itunes stating the same issue so it had affected others. Even more painful, apparently some then had their Desktop version wiped out when trying to sync to it.
If that happened to me, I'd be so alarmed, I wouldn't even be able to type a post...

Can you please put yourself in his shoes for just one second? It erased his data, he thought that the problem might be widespread, and he posted his experience. I don't know about you, but I don't take everything at face value, so it's not like I stormed away mad at SplashID before further confirmation, but extra caution doesn't hurt in this type of situation. Jesus, it prevented a couple people from updating an hour before they would have before, big deal.
