Hi,
I´m Bob I´m also new and very GREEN,

I spend a large part of my day on my IMac Flat Panel and love it to bits, but last night I noticed at the top of the screen three or four grape like things overhanging. they looked black but on inspection they had a glitter appearance, within two hours they had merged to make a ball two hours more and this thing from outer-space had doubled in size, its now the size of a table tennis ball and moving down the screen with a bright background glow.

Can anyone help or is this the beginning of the end ?

Sounds like the display is going or maybe something weird with the video card. Do they change or move depending on what you do with the Mac? Do they change when you turn the Mac off for a while and turn it back on again?

Just for curiosities sake, it would be interesting to see a picture if you can take one with a camera or phone.

Oh, and what kind of iMac is it?
 
Ditto, pics please. Not to say you are making this whole thing up but that sounds very weird and if that's really happening Apple should be the first place to contact and the forums shouldn't even be a consideration. The reason I say this is because that's not normal and no one will be able to help you here.
 
Wasn't there some sort of hidden "blob" roundish purple thing, that you could activate in 10.3? I think the guy he bought this from played a little joke. Edit: It couldn't be the wobus ball because that thing was aqua. It sounds like you have some hardware issues. I would reboot, see if it comes back. Might be a fluke. If not, you may need a new LCD :(

I think you hit the nail on the head. Yeah I think that's the blob from using "Cocktail". It's the expose' blob. If Cocktail is being used you can turn it off. A restart usually does it but it's best to go into Cocktail and turn it off. There's no worries, it's nothing wrong.

It looks as if it´s my LCD as I found that the curser passed in front of the Blob, but behind the Big Black Sun, also the blob is moverble, the BBS is not.:eek::eek:

That is the weirdest broken LCD I've ever seen :)
Maybe resetting your PRAM might help if the LCD is running overspecced by chance. The only thing I could imagine how it could physically be broken like that is that a round havy thing was standing on the screen while transporting it. (I once learned a leason there)
 
Is it there during the boot up process, or only once OSX loads? If it were hardware it would be present all the time (you'd imagine).

Yes thanks to all of you I have learnt something new:):)

I have learned that the BBS is there even when the computer is shut down, this was hard to find as the screen is black when off, it was while taking the photo that made me think to look closer at the screen:eek::eek::eek:

In fact it looks so much like a total eclips of the sun,:confused::confused:

Maybe I will go down in history as the person who invented the OS 10.3.9 ECLIPS:D:D:D0

Its just so perfectly round. Its hard to believe that it is physically in the screen! You certainly get in the Guinness book of wierd apple problems
 
The thing that weirds me out is that it moves and the screen is apparently fine after it passes over. It kinda acts like a bubble.

Yes something is still not right here. I wouldn't be so quick to say it's a broken LCD but perhaps a video card thing.

Can you take a picture of the screen with your camera's flash turned off so we can get a high quality detailed image of what it looks like?

And/or take a full screenshot by pressing Command + Shift + 3 to see if it shows up in the screenshot, and post that picture too.
 
This is the weirdest thread I've ever seen... At first I thought the OP was on acid or something.

Bad LCD, definitely. Very strange way for it to fail though.

So then the BBS is definitely a hardware failure and not a software one.

BTW, why is your screen resolution so low? Is this a 15" G4 iMac we're talking about?

Resolution is 1024 768 and it is a 15¨G4 800MHz
 
That's the most incredible thing I have ever seen. It looks to be an "Easter Egg" because it is indeed an eclipse of the sun as the OP described. It's got to be an Easter Egg. If the OP is within warranty I would have Apple look at it. If not then I would reformat and install as it does not look defective but rather an Easter Egg.

Well this version of the image is much clearer now, and we can see that the circle is in fact not perfect at all. It's definitely a hardware failure, most likely the LCD, less likely the video card.

Perhaps the backlighting began to separate in a few places near the top, and heat cause the separation to somehow move together and form an imperfect circle. Or something like that...
