well, i think that we will see more games (new ones) released to the mac platform this year, and more still next year. there is a very nice shift in the gaming industry towards mac platforms, and i think we will see more games being released to osx rather than ported. sure, it will be just game here and a game there, but with time we'll see more and more.

+1 more game announced….

Jagged Alliance Back In Action is coming to OSX this week. Release is Feb 14 according to InsideMacGames.

A tactical squad shooter kinda like XCOM.

Its gonna be a great year for Mac gaming. That I am sure of.

We will of course be bringing some new exciting stuff to the channel, but we will also be releasing some classics that we have been after for a VERY long time :D

Plus Feral will have a slew of great releases this year, and the indie market is getting stronger by the month. My indie pick right now would be Banner Saga which is made by some friends here in Austin. :apple:

please tell me it's simcity 3000 unlimited

Good to read! There should also be no shortage of said gaming "classics" to be ported (or updated) to Mac. Especially after the death of PPC & Rosetta killed off a fair number of them (AoE 2, Rise of Nations, et al).

Sounds awesome. Aspyr and Feral — you guys are doing an awesome job with some top-performing, rock-solid Mac ports. Keep up your impressive work!

Off-topic, but while we have an expert on board (Aspyr-Blair): Is there any Mac OS/driver reason why most (all?) Mac ports run slower than their PC counterpart on the very same hardware (same Mac running Windows)?
Are Mac OS drivers/GPU drivers really that bad?

Thanks for the props you guys! While I of course can't talk about specifics on the titles, I will say we are super pumped about them internally. We always go after what we "want" vs what we think will do well. We just think that is the right approach.

To your question on Mac performance, your right...we need a whole other forum and quite a bit of room to explain that one. The short answer is outdated drivers and driver support from the OS. But that answer leaves out a BUNCH of complexities in the situation. Bottom line, our job is to make that difference negligible if not totally unnoticeable by the normal user. Most of the time we get pretty dang close and we are proud of that.

Just wondering, do you see this changing for the better since the release of Mavericks?

Absolutely, Mavericks gives us a whole new set of options with updated OpenGL support. It will take new projects in order to implement them however. In some cases we will go back and update (BioShock Infinite for example), but it doesnt make sense to comb through the catalogue and rewrite everything to take advantage of the new tools. It simply costs too much.

Yes, I can attest that (as of January 2014) Aspyr and Feral have already started to optimize a few of their OSX games for Mavericks. See screenshot below, from Mac App Store.

Yep, some games like Tomb Raider would be impossible to get running as fully with modern high end effects without the improvements in Mavericks.

That we still have a "wish list" of features and performance boosts we would like to see to make porting the latest and greatest easier and quicker.

Just wanted to throw this out there to both of you: count me as one buyer who would be VERY excited to see either of you bring South Park: The Stick of Truth to the Mac.

I'd like RE6, Dark Souls or Dead Space 3 missed those when I switched to Mac only.

I second that! Small (simple) games do have a place in OSX. In addition, I really wish for more successful indie games (for OSX). I miss the good old days when MacOS gaming had several little small-fry quality (usually shareware) games from companies like:

…
Spiderweb
…
Spiderweb is still going. In fact, all of their games are on Steam (sadly, on Windows), and their most recent ones are also available for OS X.
