I grabbed Two Worlds for $1.99. I seem to remember this title, but don't recognize the scenery. Still downloading. Is this a wide open RPG? Are there allies and invisible walls or can you go anywhere you want to? Can you fall to your death? And is there coop? :)

I played for about an hour…and haven’t touched it since.

Sounds like what I do with the new RPGs that have been released recently, or run around for 40 odd hours and gotten no where as in Divinity Original Sin.

Waiting for Pillars of Eternity now to see if that pulls my strings.

For anyone not familiar with gog.com, when you open an account there are about 6 free games in you library, but not sure how good they are...

Hmm. Not a good sign. I'll check it out. At least it was inexpensive. The best open world RPG I've played has to be Elder Scrools series, although there are screen loads when entering towns and buildings (I think buildings). Very immersive. I love being able to cross the landscape without visible zone loads. One reason I loved WoW too. :)

I picked up Mount & Blade while they were giving it away. I'm not sure if they still are. Mount & Blade 2 which is said to be a better game is available in a native Mac version by the way. I have it on Steam. I didn't look to see if GOG has the Mac version of it. I've played it a little and it is a cool game. I am pretty sure TotalBiscuit gave it a review that was good too.

I own over 200 games on GOG so generally I already have the classics I want from there. Some of the stuff on sale though which I already have is really good, like the D&D Collection. That is a steal.

Two Worlds was just so meh...

I have to be honest that I *prefer* it to Oblivion, which I found bland and vastly over-rated. Of course, Oblivion is easy to call a 'better' game - better dialogue, voice acting, production values, and so on. For whatever reason I just had more fun in Two Worlds ...

Did you do the DLCs? I’ve played Oblivion about 10-15 times part of the way through the main quest, but it wasn’t until I bought a super duper everything edition and played that I put any more time in it. I’ve ran through things I didn’t even realize were DLCs like the vampire castle, and others and it’s been really fun.

Yeah, the expansions and DLC and so on make it more fun ... of course Skyrim is just a much better Elder Scrolls (and frankly so if Morrowind) so I have probably never fully tapped it out.

I've found Two Worlds being very short. It's a nice RPG which indeed starts with a very weak character but ends up with a semi-god. It's kind of open world, meaning that there are 3 areas/chapters that you have to complete each one before going to the next, but in each one you can wander around freely. But the world is not even near as live as it is in Elder Scrolls games, so don't expect to wander around and see random things happening quests spawning etc. It's always about going to a place, do something, complete the quest, deliver it back.

i never completed Two Worlds, it just wasn't that fun. However Two Worlds II was a massive improvement, with a decent mac port too

I'm finding that Two Worlds is blah... so I'm out $1.99 :( :) For anyone interested in this type of game, you'd have more fun With ElderScrolls Oblivion or Skyrim.

I never get Oblivion, Morrowind was great, Skyrim pretty decent, but Oblivion is a chore to play.

I've put in like 20 hours to Oblivion and I can't seem to like it at all :(

Indeed, Oblivion is considered the worst of the Elder Scrolls series. But still, a great RPG compared to most other alternatives.

What interesting is that I found the game mechanics about the same, and both have outstanding open worlds to run around in. Loved both of them. Oblivion had spell making, where at the mages college , you could create kick-ass combo spells. That was missed in Skyrim but still I wrote a blog for Skyrim through the completion of the main quest. :)
