How about running a hardware test on your system? It should find a problem if you drive is going south.

Lebanon. I dunno. Check out OWC's shipping policy and see what it says.

Hmm can't really find anything. Anyway np I'll look more into that later, as I said in the other post I'll see what to do first :)

No need; there was no sound, accident happened, there is sound. Enough of a test for me!

You can buy the replacement drive from any computer shop. But if your iMac is Mid 2010 you have to buy the same model drive as what is installed. Not sure if it can be different size than the one installed (for example 500GB -> 1TB). Probably can.

You can find the model of the hard drive from Apple Menu -> About this Mac -> More information, or something close to that. It opens an application that lists every possible detail about your Mac's hardware.

And you might want to check from iFixit how to install replacement hard drive to your iMac before making any decisions.

Thanks! Apparently I have the Seagate Barracuda one, anyway I am going to take it to the shop where I bought it tomorrow for them to examine it further. I highly highly doubt so but hopefully it will be able to be fixed.

Why is that?
Because of the hard drive's internal temperature sensors. The iMac controls hard drive fan's speed based on the hard drive's internal temperature sensor.

And I remembered slightly wrong. The drive doesn't need to be same model. Instead any drive from the same manufacture should do. Not sure if you can switch Seagate to Western Digital as both of them are used in iMacs. And it affects all 21.5" and 27" iMacs, not just Mid 2010.

So yesterday I took it in, and after they examined it, they said there is absolutely no problem and it is working fine though the sound is a side effect of the fall (not sure how that works) and that spending $100-150 on a new HDD would be a waste since this works fine. I guess I'll learn to live with the small sound, as long as it works!
