Just wanted to add that my Sonnet bridge also stopped working on my M1 Mac mini after the update to 11.3.

I'm considering now if I will live with 1G speeds until the release of 11.4 or install beta software to get my speeds back...

My Sonnet Echo Express worked out fine during the entire process, 11.3 Betas etc. I have a 10G Solo Ethernet PCIe card as well as few NVMe cards installed in that box, and it connects to my Mac Pro via Thunderbolt.

The only thing that didn't work was the Thunderbolt-to-Thunderbolt Bridge between my NAS and my Mac Pro.

I have an OWC Thunderbolt Dock that I plug my M1 Macbook Air into so that, among other things, I can connect to the net with Ethernet. Am I correct that this will not work under 11.3?

That dock will continue to work fine.

The dock will, but will Ethernet over TB work? I got burned with 11.2 when the “geniuses” at Apple decided to remove the driver that allowed soft raid to work on my OWC Thunderblade and downgrading to 11.1 was a bear. I don’t want to take any chances.

Yes, ethernet will keep working. This thread is about making a direct Thunderbolt connection between two devices and setting up a network between them via what Apple calls the “Thunderbolt Bridge.”

I also have this issue after updating to 11.3, my QNAP doesn't even show up system profiler under thunderbolt. I don't have another thunderbolt device to try, but its like the driver hasn't even loaded. Also getting the slow 5min boot up when QNAP is plugged in.

Well the Ethernet connection via the dock is also called Thunderbolt Bridge...

Like I said; my 10G ethernet card in my Sonnet Echo Express PCIe expansion kept working when the Thunderbolt Bridge stopped working.

I reckon if you have one of the TB3 10G expansion boxes they may be different. I heard about problems with these if you go via a TB2<->TB3 adapter. They require a lot of power, and the adapter limits that.

QNAP (TS-453BT3) Update to 4.5.3.1652 did the trick, Thunderbolt 3 Connection is back again with Big Sur 11.3

Damn - so it was a combi between QNAP and Apple.

It was working fine, then Apple upgraded to 11.3 Beta 3, and the Thunderbolt Bridge stoped working. This lasted all through 11.3 RC, and only in 11.4 Beta 1 did it work again.

Now you are saying that the latest QNAP FW upgrade also fixed something, and I start wondering if they both worked on a fix…

I'm confused. Does it work in the 11.3 release or not?

So a 50-50 change of it working. I'll give it a shot and see what happens. Luckily there's the 10 GbE as a backup option.

But beware! After the QNAP update, the gateway on the NAS no longer worked. There should be a bug in the current firmware. I had to downgrade it to previous version. Now the Gateway work again, but TB3 not. It's a crazy world.

Hope 11.4 wont take too long to come out, missing my 900MB transfer speeds, falling back to ethernet till sorted.

Spent 3 hours on the line with Apple Support.

My system was crashing on shutdown with panics. This meant I couldn't shutoff the system as it would reboot because of the panic. Crash reports had:

panic(cpu 0 caller 0xffffff801e8a2233): "PowerOff timed out in phase 'Notifying power plane drivers'. Total 30000 ms:
PowerOff/Restart still waiting on handler: 3002 ms @ 0x<ptr>, com.apple.driver.AppleThunderboltNHI(7.2.8)[75297F54-C9FE-3CB0-80E6-F8C6E0C89BE

The thunderbolt bridge adaper was also marked "red" - not connected even though the cable was connected to my QNAP.

The fix was to:

1. Disconnect the thunderbolt cable to the QNAP
2. Delete the thunderbolt adapter from network preferences

Shutdown/restarts now without panics.

Did a fresh install of 11.3.1 even though had just done the update. Fixed some problems (airplay from iMac not working), but unfortunately thunderbolt problem still exists. Will be calling apple tomorrow so we can run diagnostics to be submitted to development.

the fix is in 11.4 beta 1

I have a fix for 11.3.1 that doesn't require upgrading to beta!

I've been on the phone with Apple support for 2 days, having the exact same issues as you guys. We ran a diagnostic report on the 'WiFi' and then about halfway through the test, completely randomly, the Thunderbolt Bridge connection was established via TB3.

It might not work for you guys but worth a shot!

With QFinder Pro open and the cable connected. Firstly, Option+click on the WiFi symbol in the top menu bar, then hit "create diagnostic report". Halfway through the report, you might find success....

Good luck!

Spent another 2 hours on the line with Apple Support. We got it working on 11.3.1. Not totally sure what did it but:

1. Created a new location "Test"

2. Under Thunderbolt Bridge advanced selected the thunderbolt port connected to the QNAP (Thunderbolt 4 in my case)
