ya know... been using M1 base MBA since Monday, and not one reboot as far as I can remember and not one lock up, sleep mode at night and when not using

opening lid from sleep and lid already open just to tap a key to wake up,

BS 11.0.1 is what it came with, haven't updated. probably won't for a while

Third paragraph of this post fixed the problem for me:

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/252083925?answerId=254205721022#254205721022

"Configure the screen saver to not be displayed on the login window, which will also prevent the screen saver from starting 20 minutes after clicking on Login Window… or Switch User. This can be done by logging in as an admin user and entering the following command into Terminal: sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.screensaver loginWindowIdleTime 0 When the Password: prompt appears, type the password of the user that is currently logged in and press Return (the password being typed at this prompt will not be displayed)."

Did this about three days ago and the screensaver problem hasn't happened since. Was happening multiple times a day before.

Must try that.

We solved the issue with our M1 MBA by making sure the current logged-in account is logged out before the other user logs in. Which is a pain, but not a huge issue. With only one user logged in at a time, the screen saver lock hasn't happened.

Nice, I'm gonna give this a try. It makes sense to me based on the process listings I saw.

My wife just bought a new M1 MBA (first time Apple user) and ran into this issue. Opening and closing the laptop lid wasn't working for us, but the following key combination did get us out of the screensaver:
Option + Command + Shift + Esc

We had two user profiles setup and have since removed the user switching as a possible temp workaround.

Glad that key combo worked. The Terminal edit posted by @mbk289 works if you want a more permanent solution until 11.2 is released.

One of the solution in the following link fixed this for me. 2 weeks without problem now.

Configure the screen saver to not be displayed on the login window, which will also prevent the screen saver from starting 20 minutes after clicking on Login Window… or Switch User. This can be done by logging in as an admin user and entering the following command into Terminal: sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.screensaver loginWindowIdleTime 0 When the Password: prompt appears, type the password of the user that is currently logged in and press Return (the password being typed at this prompt will not be displayed).
edit: just noticed that it’s same solution as @mbk289 posted above
