Anyone tried the 14.4 update to see if problem persists? I’m afraid to and my Apple support rep said he hadn’t been told by engineering yet that 14.4 would fix it.
I have not tried it yet. I just emailed the senior advisor asking if engineering had an update to our original issue of the disappearing icons as "I've been patiently waiting since Nov of 2020."

not yet, will try during the weekend. MacOS received an update as well, but from description it was mostly related to xcode.

I did not have time to try it out yet, but noticed there is a big sur update as well. anyone had luck testing it ?

I asked my senior advisor if Apple will compensate me for the time I have spent trying to deal with this issue. He said that Apple does not do that. Perhaps I am just simply naïve (or worse), but has anyone had any luck getting some sort of compensation from Apple for their troubles here (or with other issues)? Two of their most recent products (M1 Air and iPhone 12 mini) are not working as designed. I asked for a few months of comped iCloud storage, so I could at least back up to the cloud, but even that wasn't given (I'm way over my standard storage allotment).

I have an easier time getting a free appetizer from my local restaurant when their service is bad, than I do getting something from the world's most valuable company...

Good idea to ask and sorry they did not grant even iCloud storage which is practically free to them!

I've never asked but then again, the only issue I've had thus far is with the MacBook Air M1. This will be the last time I purchase any 1st generation Apple product. Service and communication on complicated issues is horrid which is so disappointing.

I agree, I had really high hopes that it will be fixed in this update. It would be nice to know how many users are affected. Sometimes it just takes time for apple to confirm the product has issues . .e.g. I had to replace my airpods pro twice under warranty until apple announced a recall...

The Big Sur 11.2.1 seems to have solved the disappearing icons on my iPhone 11 Pro as well! I'll wait through the weekend to ensure that the issue does not continue to declare success.

Yes, updating should fix the issue occuring. But you have to restore the phone to a working state by restoring from a backup to get it working again.

Hello, I'm afraid if you don't have a backup there is not much to restore and the only option is to start fresh. I would suggest contacting Apple first - they already fixed the issue, maybe they can suggest a way how to fix the issue without restoring.

Just for anyone who might gone thru same problem as me and never backup their iphone before apps crashing , make sure both your device have latest versions of macOS or iOS whtsoever and then just backup them as usual and then restore backup . It works like a charm . Tqsm to everyone here who helps me solving my problems and kudos to apple help team too . Hope yall have a great day
