I guess I'm going to just cave in and update my cdma 5 to 7.0.4.

Best way, download the ipsw file, and restore that way? Or just do it via itunes on the computer?

Via iTune: 1st make a backup (I made 2, 1 on the computer and 1 on iCloud). Do a restore instead of update. Once IOS 7 is installed, and you start setting up your device, you will have the option on installing your latest backup from iCloud during the setup. That was it. When all done, you can use evasi0n 1.0.2 to jailbreak. I had 0 issues.

That's how I went about it. My i5 is at 7.0.4, with jb, and now turned off and stored in a drawer. lol.

What are peoples thoughts on updating ATV2 as well? I'm on the fence since seas0npass hasn't been updated yet but I don't want to miss out either.

Bitesms is up to 8.0.5 now and the option to buy the app to remove the ads is now there, so that means to me it's the final release. It was not there in 8.0.4

I used iTunes, but went the other way, similar to what iClarified always posts. Grab the IPSW, connect the phone to iTunes, restore the phone (pointing to the new IPSW file), and restore your data (or set up as new; your choice).

From there you have 7.0.4. From that, jailbreak with evasi0n.

BL.

Up to you.
I'd go for it.

I saved my blobs with ifaith. If I mess it up after the 7 update and the phone turns into a slow-mo movie will I be able to go back to 6 again?
When 7 was released I hated it but I have an Air and now the look of 6 on my iphone4 is very ugly...

If you have an iphone 4 and blobs then you can use them to downgrade.
Iphone 4S and above shsh blobs are useless currently.

QUESTION for the experts:

Will I be able to restore my iPhone 5S to iOS 7.0.4, storing it somewhere, and restore from my most current back up at a later time without updating the iOS?

Like when you get a brand new phone, it says "Hello, Hola!" and restore it from a backup? Will it require me to update?

Restoring from a backup will not update your iOS version

What if I backed it up with ibot backup and I was jailbroken? Will the jailbreak stay on my phone?

No, you will not be able to restore your 5S without updating once a newer ios version than 7.0.4 is out.
So you need to be careful what you install especially after a new patched ios version comes out cause if you ever need a restore there's no way to stay or go back to anything but the latest ios version that Apple signs.

Wow, so when I restore from backup, it'll check for a new version?

No, restoring from backup doesn't update the ios version.
But I don't think you understand what restoring from backup does.
All it does is syncs your contacts, texts and other settings.
It does not restore the ios firmware and its not a way to fix issues if you get stuck or something happens.

Maybe I didnt ask clearly. Let me clarify.

I want to restore my iPhone 5S to 7.0.4. When it welcomes me and asks if I want to start as a new phone or restore from backup, I'll do nothing until I'm ready to use it. When I finally restore from a backup, will it make me update the software if there is in fact a new update?

You can only restore to 7.0.4 and setup as new as long as 7.0.4 is still signed.
When 7.0.5 comes out you will not be able to do that any longer and you will be forced to restore to 7.0.5
What version are you on now and are you JB or stock?

I'm on 6.1.2 and I'm happy with how my set up is. I want to move to my 5S when all the jailbreak tweaks are working - and I want to restore from my iPhone 5 backup so all my texts and pictures are moved over.

Any advice? Lol

Thats the issue, the 5S doesn't even have biteSMS or LockInfo working. I want to wait to use it when its all working. The only solution would to be restore from backup when its all working again.

Yes, then wait till those are fixed then to use it.
You can still restore it to 7.0.4 now since its still signed and the latest ios version.
Or just leave it JB and setup as new and then restore your iphone 5 backup. Restoring from backup does not update your ios version. Just copies your stuff over to the new phone.
